Dr. Timothy Jerome Laing, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Laing regularly since 1988 and have been nothing but pleased with his care. If he can't help me with a problem, he'll refer me to another doctor that can.

He was disrespectful and sarcastic from beginning to end. He did a cursory physical examination--and that's an understatement. I had to point out my synovial cysts--which he agreed were synovial cysts. He ruled out a rheumatolical disorder based on one test. According to the American College of Rheumatology and several peer-reviewed articles, they clearly say not to go by the blood tests, even that one, and further that only 70% of people with Rheumatoid Arthritis (my and my primary care doctor's hypothesis of what's going on with me. He didn't ask me about joint pain, swelling, actually he didn't interview me at all. He decided that I have a rotator cuff injury (that's possible, but I told him the shoulder hurts as well, and he ignored me). I told him and showed him the swelling, redness and , in different joints. After a while I gave up--he was completely dismissing me. I didn't get a chance to talk about my diagnosis of Dry Eye--I had just emailed my opthalmalogist the day before… and he confirmed that I had a diagnosis of Dry Eye. He did order a Phase 3 bone scan (Nuclear Medicine) but didn't tell me why. Here are some samples of what he said to me. I said "I have three questions." He answered in a sarcastic tone of voice "What am I, a genie?" I thanked him at the end of the appointment, "He didn't even look at me, walked toward the door, and gruffly said, "I haven't done anything for you yet," and he didn't schedule a follow up appointment. The above examples of his sarcasm and general "jerkness" are just a few. I was a pleasant as could be. In the appt., I ignored his manner because I know he would chalk me up to being a "difficult patient." He didn't want to give me his notes from the appt. Every other doctor at the hospital does--they print it out right there. I told him I like to keep all my medical records. Needless to say, on Monday I'm calling to see another rheumatologist. I just received a referral from another specialist at the same hospital. I will be reporting this doctor to patient relations. If you look at the negative review on ratemds.com, it was almost like my own experience. At least he didn't laugh at me like he did with the patient who wrote that review.

I would rate Dr. Tim Laing at a high 10. Have been going to him for about 15 years and I couldn't be happier.
