Dr. Timothy D Macon, DO

Dr Macon is MIA. I have been trying to reach him for 2 months. No "after-hour" provision. No return calls from Office Voice messages left. Found doors locked during their office hours when we decided to just show up to see the staff ... Finally got a "video-visit" arranged -- he stood me up! Very unprofessional. I hope he is OK, but if you really need the help of a Pulmonologist -- and I really do! -- This is not the place to go at this time (1Q2023).

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS Doctor! Sleep Study #1: I had done at HF Hospital, prior to Dr. Macon. I brought it in, he didn't look at it or the results, just tossed it aside and said it was "too old" (less than 2 years). He wasn't even interested in the results, which probably don't change much over time, and was only interested in me getting another sleep study. Sleep Study #2: I did it at Beaumont in SCS, he wasn't there, not at all. I look at the insurance billing, he was paid $1,000 for the study, just for prescribing it. He didn't create the results or actually do ANY work, he only prescribed the sleep study test. The results and the technicians were all other medical professionals, yet insurance hands him a grand. I see him for the results. Now it's Hypersomnia. Never mind any symptoms or the Epworth Sleepiness Scale tests they give you every time you go in. Nope! Now he Prescribes Ritalin for Narcolepsy! Most drs. would prescribe Provigil. The… Ritalin didn't help. Falling asleep all over, standing up, call office, he can't be bothered. Sleep Study #3: Have at his office. Sure enough, I'm diagnosed w/ Narcolepy. Which my symptoms and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale would have told anyone! He wants to continue with the Ritalin. Where's Provigil? Says "We prescribe Ritalin at MY office for Narcolepsy." Sleep doctors always try Provigil and/or Nuvigil for Narcolepsy. Most will try out a variety mix of those drugs with others to see what works for the patient. Well not Dr. Macon! He's stuck on that Ritalin business. I don't know if his MD training just didn't go further into the chapters of his medical textbooks that explains what medication is prescribed for Narcolepsy, a life-long, no-cure disease. Or what the Epworth Sleepiness Scale means. Now on the Provigil, lowest dose, falling asleep. Call office, can't make a new appt. for 9 months! Yep, he prescribes something and now you can suffer for a year. By phone, doubles Provigil, I ask to add Ritalin back to the mix as back-up, no he won't do that. Now I'm on 400 Mg. of Provigil, still falling asleep standing up, call office, he can't see me. So I have an appt. 6 months after the 3rd sleep study. I kid you not. His office calls and cancels the appt.! They push it back another 3 months! I should mention here too that every appt. I've had with this guy, they've called and cancelled, like no big deal for him, totally inconsiderate to the patients. Every single appt. They tell you to just call back over and over thru the week, see if there's any cancellations. What kind of service is that? For patients who have chronic conditions? Maybe he should stop adding patients to his roster when he can't handle the ones he already has. Now I'm forced to find another Sleep Doctor, this guy is a nightmare, and he doesn't give any cares for his patients whatsoever. Do you like Ritalin for Narcolepsy? Waiting an hour to be seen? Having your appts. cancelled and no earlier openings after he cancels on you? Maybe this is your Sleep doctor!

I was looking for a different sleep specialist than Dr. Macon. I just don't like his attitude. I was there to see him, yet he made eye contact with my husband and not me. Talked to him and not me. I tried to get in with other docs but EVERYONE said I have to see him FIRST. Grrrrr.

I do not understand all these negative comments regarding Dr. Macon. I have been a patient with Dr. Macon for almost 8 years. He is a professional and in my dealing with him, he has been very helpful in explaining my sleep disorder. He was open to all my suggestions about the CPAP machine and the pressure levels. With Dr. Macon you need to relax and have a sense a humor instead of getting into his office and play a patient who needs attention at all cost. I, once, wrote an 2 pages essay explaining why I didn't like the way they sleep test me. In my next visit, he was very cordial and even agree with me a that I needed to do the testing differently. All this has to do with the pressure level a patient should start with. He made sure the testing was done properly, and he convinced me of the proper the pressure level (which I disagree with). Now I sleep vey well thanks to him patience with me and his understanding. Dr. Macon is good doctor, I thank him for all the suggestions and support… he gave. He care about his patient. He send me to a doctor because of unusual daytime nasal air passage obstruction that are not due to cold or allergies. It turned out that I had a severe deformed septum, which was corrected through a minor surgery. Now I breath better, (but still need my machine) thanks to Dr. Macon for sending me see a specialist

Dr. Macon diagnosed me for sleep apnea but did not do any explanation of my sleep study testing other than to say that I have it. I switched doctors for my second visit and got a full explanation, including charts and graphs, of my results. As much as I understand that everyone has a different way of doing things when you spend hundreds of dollars and many hours doing testing I, as a patient, want to know what is happening with my health.

I am quitting Dr. Macon - He is so uninterested in my questions and he moves so slowly that I think he is sleep deprived. It is like going to a hair salon where the hairdresser has a terrible hairstyle! Plus I had to wait very long in the exam room and I was one of only two people there at the time. Was prescribed a bi-pap machine and it does not help. I still do not sleep well. Am switching doctors.

I am disgusted with Dr. Macon. I received 3 sleep tests with no commentary from him at all. I had no idea what was going on with my sleep. Further, when I finally received a prescription for a machine, I was not able to use it. He didn't even bother to call me regarding follow-up. I now sleep upright, and I have no apnea--so I guess I didn't need that expensive machine after all. When I first met Dr. Macon, I had so many questions. His response was always "Wait until you get this machine." I don't consider that an explanation at all. Twenty minutes in, he raised his hand to say STOP, "I have other patients," and left the room. I went to a second sleep specialist who acted very strangely and eventually said that he wouldn't take me on as a patient. Turns out he and Macon are good friends. My husband is still Macon's patient. He always charges the insurance company for a long visit, when, in fact, Macon has never spent more than five minutes with my husband.

Altho it is a long wait, he is very good at what he does and will make sure you are 100% satisfied with your visit. He goes beyond a Regular Dr. in his Caring for you.
