Dr. Timothy John Mcelrath, MD

Dr McElrath did my hysterectomy robotically with great results. In addition to the endometrial cancer, I ended up having 2 fibroids the size of grapefruits. He took the time to remove them without having to cut me abdominally. It would have been much easier for him, but as he said ‘not easier for you.’ He continues to monitor my lichen sclerosis and had cutting edge info available for me, as he had been studying it recently. I feel very lucky to have him as my doctor.

I went to Dr McElrath with a diagnosis of uterine cancer. I was nervous because of my diagnosis and I did not know him. He was very professional and explained everything completely. I had a total hysterectomy done robotically with very good results. I had fractured my wrist and had more trouble with that than the hysterectomy. Dr. McElrath is not a "touchy-feely" kind of doctor, but he is kind, professional and very competent. I would recommend him and would use him again.

I went with my Mom for a consultation with Dr McElrath. He was texting during the entire visit!! That was a first. I would recommend another doctor.

Last Fall I was referred to Dr. McElrath of the Women's Cancer Care Associates. I was unfamiliar with him, so I looked at his reviews online. He was rated poorly on the major Doctor Review sites - and that definitely made me nervous. We even considered requesting a new primary, but decided to meet him first. And I am glad I did because he saved my life, literally. From the start he was professional and informative. He gave an overview of my diagnosis - which was a soft tissue sarcoma in my uterus. This type of cancer is very uncommon with only 1200 cases diagnosed each year in the United States. After meeting with him, there was no question about who I wanted to treat me. He explained what makes a sarcoma different than other types of cancer. We learned that up until a few years ago, there was no chemotherapy that treated soft-tissue sarcoma. Dr. McElrath gave an aggressive, but appropriate treatment plan and detailed each step of the process, from ideal-situation to… worst-case-scenario. First, I was to have a full hysterectomy - and remove any lymph nodes it may have spread to. Because of the nature of the sarcoma, my tissues needed to be sent to a lab and analyzed to before a definitive diagnosis of what stage it was and what the course of treatment after the hysterectomy. On the day of my surgery, my family waited to hear the outcome and Dr. McElrath was just as professional and knowledgeable with my family as he was with me. A few weeks later, I got lab results that we caught the sarcoma very early. After a recovery time of about six-weeks, I went back to Dr. McElrath for my follow-up and post operation treatment plan. Luckily chemo therapy isn’t necessary and hormone therapy would be enough to prevent new sarcomas from developing. Because of Dr. McElrath, I am 100% back to my life.

Does not care about is patients Overall Well being. Even after the Cancer is "gone". I would recommend anyone else.

Dr. McElrath was supposed to do surgery for my ovarian torsion, but discharged me instead. Because of his negligence, my ovary ended up dying, which caused an infection and inflammation. He has no bedside manner, and he is rude and pompous!!! I would never recommend him to anyone!!!

From the moment I first meet with Dr.Mcelrath, I found him to be caring, and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He takes his time to tell you what needs to be done, and eveything that goes with surgery. I felt comfortable with him from the very first meeting. In the future if I have any other issues, I will sitting right in his office. I don't want any other surgeon , he was just that good.

Terrible doctor, get someone else.

First things first. I am alive 2 years after surgery for stage IIIC ovarian cancer. Dr. Mc Elrath is an aggressive surgeon, and I got the medical therapy I needed, including intraperotinrial (IP) chemotherapy. However, he does not like to be questioned, (he actually told me twice he had no time, as he had to see patients who were sicker than I was) and does not listen. This really makes a difficult situation worse, and like another patient who commented here, I was told if I wanted a different doctor I would have to leave the practice. After many attempts to remedy the communication problems, I did leave! Dana - Farber Cancer Center in Boston is not convenient to Albany, but it is cutting edge, and you are not made to feel like a number there. The crazy thing is, I was not even referred to this doctor, he was just the next available surgeon. This was not explained, and it felt terrible when I was not allowed to see a doctor in the practice I felt respected me! The nurses… and support staff at Women's Cancer Care are WONDERFUL. It is too bad policy allows this doctor to treat patients with such indifference.
