Dr. Timothy John Neis, MD

Have brought my children to Tim Neis since the birth of my oldest 18 year old. He is beyond extraordinary. Multiple issues over the years with both of my now teenage kids. He is 100 out of 100.

Dr. Neis is thorough and gentle. He responds well to questions, and really seems to care about my kids. I've always been treated politely at Southdale Peds, but I've never tried to walk in without a quick call first - they have wonderful nurses who assess the situation quickly over the phone, and each time it's been necessary, they have gotten me in right away. I think pediatricians do tend to ask a lot of seemingly simple questions, but I bet a lot of trouble is saved by not assuming anything! I've never experienced anything like the Dr,M reviewer writes about and am really wondering why you wouldn't just call first? Indicative of other issues for the reviewer?

I read the previous commenter's review and found it completely incongruent with ANY experience we've ever had with Dr. Neis, or Southdale Peds. We usually go to the Edina office, but have made the trek to Eden Prairie SPECIFICALLY to see Dr. Neis on the days that he is there. I've worked in the healthcare field for over 23 years as an administrator and as a clinician, so I'm pretty picky about the care I receive--even more so with my child (just like any mom). If you are thinking I'm getting preferential treatment because of my background, think again, I'm a stay-at-home mom now and the office doesn't have a clue about my credentials. Dr. Neis is patient and especially sensitive to both child and parents alike. His calm, soft-spoken demeanor is reassuring, but NEVER condescending. Our son has seen him the for almost 4 years and has always called him his "doctor friend." Keep in mind this was a kid who had recurrent ear infections for most of the first year of his life. It… seemed we were frequent fliers to Southdale. I actually HAVE shown up without an appointment when I was called to daycare and my son was behaving out of character. I brought him by the Edina clinic just as his symptoms worsened...and I started getting a bit nervous (even with my experience). They took him back immediately, without question. I was never chastised for not making an appointment, even though I understand the reason for doing so. If his pre-school had not been literally 6 blocks away, I wouldn't have tried--but I was thankful I did. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Neis and every member of the Southdale practices who have gone out of their way to show me respect and caring. This practice was recommended to me by a dear friend whose daughter is a special needs child with a long, complicated medical history. I'm so glad I listened and sought out this practice for our son. I wouldn't trade Dr. Neis or Southdale for anything; they've earned this mom's trust!

Attempted to get a pediatrician at Dr. Neis' Eden Prairie office to provide an unscheduled assessment of my 6 year-old's incessant headache (2 consecutive days without relief). I acknowledged to the receptionist that I understood appointment as the preferred method, but requested an opportunity to see if a doctor could at least make a preliminary assessment.While the receptionist was gracious in her response, the triage nurse introduced herself with the announcement that I had no appointment! From there, the arrogance and insensitivity only escalated. I was asked, for instance, if the child had eaten. This was AFTER I had already specified that presenting symptoms had been experienced for 2 DAYS. I was asked additional questions of the simplistic ilk until I couldn't tolerate the disrespect any longer. I left for Children's Hospital and received a world of difference in care from the front door.Dr. Tim is softspoken and can be condescending without being aggressive. His staff must be… getting their arrogance cues from somewhere on the upper level of medicine and bedside manner from within the upper faculty of the place!
