Dr. Timothy R Shaver, MD

As soon as see his name in the list of surgeons,VSA, I remember, Dr. Shaver save my mother life, 16 years ago. Without any doubt, I recommend my sister to have the gall-bladder surgery with him. He is a excellent professional who knows his job, the way he explain the procedure give you a sense of trust and his kindness make you hopeful. My sister told me, she is fine and you are in her prayers.

This was a last minute emergency, and Dr Shaver fit me in on the same day. He knew exactly what needed to be done and kept me informed on recovery. Both his staff and surgical staff were friendly and informative. He has a great positive attitude, and a sense of humor. I'm six weeks out of surgery and evrything is going just they was he said it would. Highly recommend!

Dr. Shaver is a sweetheart. He put me at ease and explained everything thoroughly and matter-of-factly. I would recommend him to anyone.

Doctors Shaver performed a minor procedure for me on Christmas Eve. The fact they could schedule me that day was a minor miracle in itself. He was quick and to the point and did a fantastic job. 10 months later, I have had no complications with the procedure. While nobody ever looks forward to these types of visits, I feel in good hands with Dr. Shaver holding the scalpel.

I did not know about online reviews until recently, but my experience with Dr. Shaver was a few years back. Worst experience ever with a physician and surgery. I had an urgent issue with a condition that could not wait, so my family physician recommended Dr. Shaver (or so I thought, or later I speculated that my family physician found Shaver's name online and simply suggested him). I was seen within a week, and got scheduled for surgery the following week. The surgery was held at the INOVA hospital on Seminary Road in Alexandria. Worst. Experience. Ever. The only person professional and courteous was the pre-op nurse, I believe her name was Mickey. The others were insensitive if not outright rude. The anesthesiologist made some rather rude remarks during pre-op about how painful this procedure would be and so forth. This may be true but perhaps not the best thing to discuss pre-op. While being rolled into the OR some nurse leading the way had some silly grin on her face,… made me wonder what was up. No one said anything as I was rolled into the OR either. Makes me wonder what goes on when I am put to sleep. Post-op was the worst, I got shuffled from nurse to nurse, not one could offer a smile or anything positive to say. Meanwhile, another problem surfaced during the surgery to which 'Dr.' Shaver informed me of during the follow up visit a week or two later, something he could not handle so he suggested another physician. Then he sent me to the wrong type of physician. When I made an appointment and saw that physician I was informed that the new problem was not anything he handled either and he could not understand why I was sent to him. Overall, I would not take my dog to see Shaver, and I would never visit INOVA hospital ever again.

Had a bad bowwel situation that was not diagnosis properly by others. Dr. Shaver helped me through the steps of finding the problem and addressing it. Excellent bedside manner and gives you the time needed (by your standards!).

I did not know Dr Shaver prior to my need for surgery. He was thorough in his explanation, contacted primary care and oncologist quickly. He put me at ease during our contacts and I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer Stage 4 and an operable tumor being reduced by chemo with the hopes of additional surgery.
