Dr. Todd Romney Sloan, MD

Dr Sloan is a the very best in orthopedic medicine , I would not go to anyone else , I have insurance but I pay out of pocket to see him .

Because of Dr. Sloan's lack of interest in listening to anyone but himself talk and his cavalier attitude towards the pain and suffering I was in during the office visits I had with him, the lack of follow-up, and his staff's incompetence at scheduling tests at the correct facility among other rude and unprofessional encounters, as well as his poor interpretation of tests, from lab test results to MRI's, CAT scans and an Indium 111, as well as clinical observations, I lost both my right hip and any future possibility of having a hip replacement because of the extent of bone loss from infection over a extended period of time while under his care. I was left with a Girdlestone Procedure following the removal of the head of the femur and an extensive 12-week treatment of the antibiotics Vancomycin and Invanz. The surgeries, a second one was performed to remove a displaced spacer from the first surgery and to place more antibiotics inside the site, was done by a separate team of his… Kaiser orthopedic surgeons and Dr. Sloan was not among them, nor did he ever participate in my care after the initial office visits. I was 57 days in hospital and rehab following these surgeries that were necessary to an untreated hip infection that began months before while under the care of Dr. Todd Sloan and not properly diagnosed because of his initial interpretation of early testing for a hip infection. I am five years post-op with my right leg significantly shorter, damage to my kidneys, significant deterioration in mobility and health, and having never walked without a walker or being in a wheelchair since first seeing Dr. Stoan for treatment and having my medical symptoms and needs minimized and all but ignored. His reports back to my primary led to searches away from my hip area and condition to months of seeing other specialists in a search for the cause for my distress and pain, and included six months of being on massive doses of pain medications to control the unrelenting chronic pain levels before and the tapering off of them after the surgeries. It pains me now to see this doctor still in practice and treating others, despite the fact that he left Kaiser Permanente not long after my incident and after only a relatively short period of association with them. I suspect his low scores on this site are a result of much of the care given patients during this association.

We have had two visits with Dr. Sloan. The first was at his office and the second was when he visited at the hospital. He took ample time to explain the results and review the recommendations. He was clear and empathetic to the needs of my mother. There really was no "follow-up" -- but we rated the hospital visit as a follow-up. It was amazing how he reviewed what the orthopaedic residents had written about their visits and then he did an evaluation of his own and a thorough review of the results. We have hip replacement surgery scheduled next.

Dr. Todd Sloan came highly recommended and very glad that I chose him as my ortho doctor. My knee is feeling much better thanks to Dr. Sloan. He also suggested "gentle yoga" and it is helping my knee and hip greatly. Kudos to his staff.
