Dr. Tom Stanley, MD, is a distinguished orthopedic spine surgeon at OrthoIllinois, a division of OrthoMidwest. Driven by a lifelong fascination with biomechanics and the complexities of human function, Dr. Stanley’s interest in how things are put together led him to pursue his undergraduate studies at Tulane University School of Engineering in New Orleans. He graduated with honors, earning a degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Following his undergraduate education, Dr. Stanley continued at Tulane University, where he earned both his Medical Doctorate and a Master of Public Health. His passion for biomechanics naturally aligned with the field of orthopedics, allowing him to address musculoskeletal problems and help patients return to normal function. He completed a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
During his residency, Dr. Stanley developed a particular interest in treating pediatric scoliosis patients, which inspired him to …subspecialize in orthopedic spine surgery. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases at New York University Medical Center. There, he gained proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques for the neck and lower back.
Since 2010, Dr. Stanley has practiced as an orthopedic spine surgeon, initially in private practice in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. In 2018, he joined OrthoIllinois, where he continues to provide high-quality spine care to his patients.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Stanley is committed to careful assessment of his patients’ symptoms and treatment goals. He utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to identify the source of injury or condition, and develops comprehensive treatment plans aimed at helping patients achieve a more active, pain-free lifestyle. Whenever possible, he emphasizes conservative treatments such as injection therapy and physical rehabilitation. If surgery is required, Dr. Stanley specializes in the latest minimally invasive techniques, which reduce incision length, hospital stays, and recovery time.
Dr. Stanley is also trained in the minimally invasive iFuse Implant System® from SI-Bone®, Inc., a medical device technology designed for the treatment of sacroiliac joint disorders.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Stanley enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children.
