Dr. Tonya T Cooley, DO

I'm currently 20 years old, and I've been going seeing Dr.Tonya Cooley since I was roughly 12 years old. Now, that's not to say she's a great physician. It was mainly because she was one of the few doctors that my parents found that speak Vietnamese. We've always had problems with her service. She is rather difficult to open up to when it comes to sensitive medical issues. She typically brushes off patients' medical concerns that patients - for me a UTI, liver issue. In a addition, she is lazy. As a physician, she does not give her 100-110% to her patients. I've worked at a medical office before and I know what is expected of medical professionals. Recently, I went to her for an annual check up and I asked if the blood tests being performed would be covered by insurance. She quickly said "yea yea it's fine". I asked if she actually called my insurance and she said it was fine. Yes, I should have called my insurance but at the same time, I should be able to trust my physician… that I would not be overcharged for my fees. She not only sent the wrong diagnosis codes initially, but now I'm facing a $500 bill that could have been done at for $30 at my workplace if she told me it wouldn't be covered by insurance. In addition, she is extremely understaffed - only having one office desk assistant. She'll often times hang up on you quickly and or cuts you off quickly on the phone - not willing to hear you out. Even if you need a Vietnamese-speaking doctor, please go elsewhere or find a trustworthy friend/family member that can translate for you. Her time and care is not worth it.

If I could give no stars then I would. She has no responsibility or care for a follow up visit for my mom.

Dr. Cooley is a thorough doctor that has a sincere interest in taking care of her patients. She never 'rushes' when speaking with you. Her office staff is also very kind and competant.
