Dr. Toyooki Sonoda, MD

He is an incredibly talented surgeon. My husband’s surgery was a difficult one- it was over 6 hours due to the complexity. Dr Sonoda took his time to ensure that it was done as least invasive as possible. Dr Sonoda is kind and compassionate while setting realistic expectations. After the surgery, he was incredibly responsive to all questions and checked in frequently. He truly is an exceptional doctor!

Dr. Sonoda is the personification of arrogance, pomposity and insensitivity in his interactions with his patients. His TOTAL lack of ANY interest or involvement, other than the time in the operating room, and his complete disregard for post- surgery care, is a disgrace to the medical profession

I was extremely grateful to be recommended to Dr Sonoda by a colleague of his. I can't count how many Drs I've seem over many years, who could not help my pain. But within minutes, Dr Sonoda diagnosed the problem and had a solution. It was like a MIRACLE! And on top of that, he is a most caring, kind & professional doctor who listens to everything you share and all your questions. If you've been referred to Dr Sonoda, count yourself very LUCKY!!!

When visiting Dr. Sonoda he immediately scheduled an MRI and diagnosed an internal infection. I had been to another doctor and apparently misdiagnosed. Over the course of a month or so, Dr. Sonoda attempted to remedy my infection conventionally in-office, but ultimately required surgery. If you have the misfortune of needing the services of a colorectal surgeon and somehow find yourself in the presence of Dr. Sonoda, consider yourself a very lucky person. He is a highly-skilled, empathic, super-smart, rockstar doctor on the down-low. I think about him often and how his healing skills put my life back on track.

Couldn't ask for a better doctor. He listens to your concerns, answer all questions, and does an excellent job. I'd recommend Dr. Sonoda without any reservations whatsoever!

I had heard that Dr. Sonoda was a brilliant surgeon. Fortunately I have not needed him yet, but I set up an appointment as I do need a GI surgeon. He was very brusque and dismissive, and without allowing me to explain my full history, swiftly dashed off a prescription that my internist later told me not to take as "it would do nothing to help." I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but as of now I am pretty disappointed.

I did not have a good experience with Dr. Sonoda. After my surgery, my problem not only returned, but the surgery caused new problems. His staff was rude and incompetent in dealing with insurance issues. I do not think Dr. Sonoda has a good bedside manner--very detached and unresponsive. I would not recommend him.

Four stars are not enough when rating Dr Sonoda. He is a wonderfully skilled surgeon as well as a very caring, concerned Dr. He always takes time to listen and explain the diagnosis and treatment. Amazingly, there is not even the slightest hint of ego or arrogance on his part. I feel very lucky to have found him.
