A Family of Dentists
Dr. Denny joins his sister Dr. Mary Denny Wagner at their family practice, which was started by their uncle Dr. Herb Barthels in the 1960's. Dr. Denny comes from a long line of dentists. His father is an orthodontist in Los Angeles, his brother is a general dentist in Redondo Beach, and his younger brother is a dental student in his last year at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.
A Love of Travel
Dr. Denny was raised in Palos Verdes, California but spent much of his time in Santa Barbara where most of the family resided. Between his undergraduate and master's degree, Dr. Denny spent 2 years working in Japan and traveling throughout …Asia. During his master's program at Cal Poly, he returned to Asia as a volunteer at Thailand's first community college in the northern town of Nong Khai. Here he served as an administrator and an English teacher.
Community Service
At the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, Dr. Denny was active in the school-sponsored Student Community Outreach for Public Education program (SCOPE). He participated in various SCOPE activities, including health fairs targeting underserved populations. The highlight of the program was San Francisco's Project Homelessness Connect where Dr. Denny and his colleagues provided dental treatment to the homeless population in downtown San Francisco. Dr. Denny participated in an oral surgery rotation at Highland Hospital in Oakland, as well as a denture rotation at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco. Dr. Denny was also a member of the Philippines Dental Mission where 35 volunteers spent their spring break providing dentistry in Manila and surrounding provinces. The trip was organized by Pacific dental students with the assistance of a local church. In his spare time, Dr. Denny enjoys traveling, surfing, swimming, and bike riding here in Santa Barbara.
