Dr. Tyler Shawn Carroll, MD

I left Dr. Carroll in tears today after he was rude, insensitive and argumentative. He gave me very poor advice on diet and fitness, which I know because I have done a lot of research regarding this issue and my husband is a certified fitness trainer and I am friends with several certified dietitians. I would also like to note that I am a healthy person, my body type is not extremely thin but I am also not fat and work out 4-5 times a week. I have quite a bit of muscle mass, and do cardio every week as well. I have had uncharacteristic weight gain recently and given that my lifestyle and eating habits are likely not a reason for the weight gain, I felt this was likely a symptom of other medical things I have going on. When I expressed this concern to him he totally brushed that off and proceeded to lecture me for 15 minutes on how I am likely not eating or exercising correctly and argued with me about my choice of exercise. News flash, just because you are a doctor does not mean that… you are certified in nutrition, diet, and fitness. I notice that he has weight loss as one of his specialties but doesn't seem to have any credentials to back that up, which is a red flag to me. So if you want to go in and be body shamed and have someone argue with you about your choice of exercise then go ahead and go to Dr. Carrol, but otherwise I would not recommend him. Given that weight loss is not why I went to him it is astounding to me that this is what I am writing about on my review for him. He didn't listen to my actual medical concerns at all and instead gave me bad advice, was judgmental, and rude.

My experience with Dr. Carroll was great! I recently moved to Utah from Texas and needed to find a good primary care doctor. I read his credentials and spoke to several locals. With this positive feedback, I decided to book an initial patient appointment. Dr. Carroll was friendly and took his time in getting to know me and my medical history. He answered all of my questions and explained things to me that either I had previously received wrong information or didn't understand well. I was extremely pleased with his professionalism and kind, caring attitude. His office staff was also wonderful. His front office staff member, LeeAnn, bent over backwards to help get me with my insurance company while most other office staff members would have just said, "Sorry, your insurance company doesn't accept us" and that would have been it. This kind of customer service is rare.

This doctor shouldn't be in a business dealing with people. I went in as a first time patient and would never go back. I was the only patient there, first thing in the morning, but he wouldn't look at the labs I brought in because he said he didn't have time for that. Then he asked me questions he could've found on the labs, and was ticked because I didn't know how to read them. I even said, "I'm not a doctor, that's why I brought them for you to look at" He grabbed the labs, and then lectured me. He was a jerk. I was stunned and almost in tears and about to just walk out. I wanted to ask him one more question but he cut me off saying that he'd already spent too much time with me and had other patients. He said if I needed more time to schedule another appointment. I've never seen anything like this in my life and will NOT be going back.

I am a cancer patient and have been to MANY Drs. The first thing he let me know was that he was in a hurry. He reminded me of that 3 times in our short visit). He let me know he could only deal with one of my and never offered any hope, suggestions or future care. It was a complete waste of my time and money. Never smiled, never cared...actually he was quite rude. I left feeling awful.

He was understanding of my body and about how my birth controle was going to effect my body. He inserted my iud and I had little to no discomfort the weeks after. He was kind, friendly and very into his practice.

Dr Carroll is a very good doctor. He takes time make proper assessments and is very courteous.
