On my third session with him, I used the word "insomnia" in the common way and not in the way that is medically defined, which only a doctor would know. He deemed this unacceptable and became visibly angry at me for this. When I accepted his technical definition and tried to move on, he refused and instead wanted to continue to tell me how I'm not smart and he is, like he had something to prove. This was profoundly unprofessional behavior. Worse, there is apparently no way to lodge a real complaint about him outside of trying to get his license revoked, which I'm not petty enough to try to do. But I do think that anyone considering going to him for their sleep issues understand a few things. He is just a data guy, meaning he has spent most his career in research, not with patients, and as such he has terrible social skills because he never had to develop them. He is unlikely to ever improve this, because he is already well into middle age where changes in social behaviors don't… tend to change all that much. He is unfriendly, condescending and clearly thinks he is better than us little people. All he will do is tell you to set alarms for when to go to bed and log your times when you went to your bedroom, when you fell asleep, and when you woke up. He will then plug that data into a spread sheet and show you your statistics and trends. Here is a secret: so will any app, so you don't need him to do the only job he does. If you have trouble going to sleep, he will just say that you should just sleep less. His only concern is that you are not spending time in bed while not asleep. My ratios on time in bed compared to being asleep was high, in the 90% ranges, so I was apparent getting perfect sleep, no problem, nothing wrong. He had zero concern that I was sleeping only 3-4 hours a night. He just suggested a later bedtime. He is really just a coach. A really terrible coach. You see him, he tells you to set alarms, log your sleep, and tells you to keep going. That's it, session done, give him hundreds of dollars. He even pushes to end the sessions half way through even if you are trying to inform him on the data he just asked for, because he would probably rather be golfing than helping his patients. My conclusion is that he is a doctor only for the money, not to help anyone but himself. Worse, he is in mental health, meaning he can do real damage if motivated to. At this point, considering the other reviews I've seen on him have the exact same issues I've just described, then I think he is motivated to cause damage to his patients while extracting their money. So instead of getting his license revoked, which I'd never accomplish anyway, I instead want to suggest that no one patronize him. You can get better treatment from a free to use app or a 10 dollar book.
