Dr. Vajira Gunawardane, MD

Unorganized, unprofessional office staff that have poor communications ability, no professionalism and compassion towards patients. My first visit a NEW patient and their family exited from an appointment screaming that they will NEVER COME BACK!" My appointment time as 2 pm, I arrived at 1:45 pm. I wasn't called back to be seen until 3:30. My entire appointment was over 2 hours. MEDICAL ERRORS. A medical assistant/Scribe named Anik Saha, entered the exam room with this statement..."So you have MS." As though I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MS). I was MORTIFIED because I do not have MS, nor been diagnosed with it!!!!!! I proceeded to tell him I do not have MS and he had the audacity to debate me, saying "you don't know you have MS?" FINALLY, he looked at the computer screen and recognized that I am not the patient that has MS that was supposed to be placed in the exam room I was in. This incident was EGREGIOUS, HORRIFIC and as I recount it, I find it UNBELIEVABLE and… it has left me traumatized. However, Dr. G tried her best to pacify the incident by telling me this person is very bright and completed a 4 year medical program in 3 years and was highly recommended. She said that today was his first day on the job. My response was, "While he might be book smart, what he just did by not following protocol and his engagement with me afterward, and lack of a sincere apology is a liability to her practice. She said, she will "give him a strong reprimand but later said, she may make his first day his last day." Today, May 14th, I had a 9:30 am appointment her office staff messed up the time and had it down for 2:00 pm. My appointment date and time is on a printed sheet with other appointments but the appointment today that they messed up was handwritten by the appointment scheduler. I arrived at 9 am for my 9:30 am appointment. The office staff were rude and in fact lied in my face that they told me the appointment was changed. They casually asked if I could come back at 2pm. I said NO, I am not returning and cancel any other appointments you have for me! Mind you, before this happened I overheard another patient upset because they messed up her appointment too. Needless to say, while Dr. G has good credentials as a Neurologist, the office staff that represents her really is a discredit to her entire practice. They are unprofessional, have attitudes and lie. Furthermore, the medical assistant that made the egregious mistake of telling me I am an MS patient and arguing with me is still employed with her practice. I saw him this morning. This alone diminished my confidence that Dr. G. understands the gravity of the situation that happened nor a person of her word or a physician I can trust with my medical care. Dr. G is notorious for making too many appointments and the standard for this practice appears to be longggggggggggggg patient waits and inadequate treatment by her staff. I now have to start over again to find a competent Neurologists office with a professional staff. The degree of mishandling and errors that exist with this practice is not worth the energy, time nor risk for any patient.

One time there and I feel a whole Lot better

I have suffered from crushing neck and shoulder pain for over 10 years. Over and over I was told I probably have a pinched nerve or blood vessel in my neck/shoulder region but nobody knew where. After numerous X-rays, MRIs, Sonograms and Mylograms, I still had no answers. I tried every modality of physical therapy, massage, chiropractic care, dry needling, injections, a rhizotomy and even a 2 level crevical fusion which was unnecessary. After seeking help from more than 18 doctors in 3 states, I found Dr. Vajra Gunawardane. I am finally free of pain and cannot be more thankful for his care. B O’Connor Lewes, DE

Dr. Vajira Gunawardane was recommended to me by several in my health club as a name synonymous with successful diagnosis and treatment of spinal issues. I have found this to be true and wholeheartedly recommend him. He is up to date on the latest treatments for relief of back pain.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Vajira Gunawardane for many years & I think the world of him. He is an absolutely exceptional physician. I came to him with a very painful degenerative condition and with his treatments I have less pain, more mobility and a greater quality of life. I am a testament to the fact that his procedures can remove your pain and allow you to get on with life without the need to rely on any pain medication. I highly recommend him!

Treats patients by demeaning them if they ask for anesthesia for proccedures that will be painful but short. It will slow him down so he told me "don't be a baby. I had a college girl here yesterday for the same procedure. She said it didn't hurt a bit." It hurt a lot. He says he will give you Percocet prior to procedure. Five minutes prior, when it hasn't had any chance to work, he gives you the percocet. His procedures work, but he is not pleasant. You must drive to his office to get prescriptions, get referrals from his wife, and he disappears for months at a time.

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Vajira Gunawardane. He has been my physician for almost a decade and in my opinion he is the very BEST of the BEST. I trust him implicitly. I am 68 years old and I have a complex history of numerous spine and joint problems dating back many years and until I met Dr. G, I had pretty much resigned myself to struggling to get through each day in the best manner that I could. This included having to use a wheel chair or lofstrand crutches to get around safely for over 12 years (because of pain and balance problems which resulted in frequent falls) - that is until Dr. G came into my life. I met him through a wonderful physical therapist who was treating me for severe contractures and spasms which had occurred after aberrant nerve regeneration from a major palsy. Upon initial examination and evaluation he stated that he felt he could definitely help me. He established a treatment plan, explained the important aspects and provided me with written information.… He is always reassuring, very caring and patient with me throughout each treatment. He has an exceptional team of medical professionals and staff that think very highly of him and emulate his high values to his patients. His goal has always been to reduce my pain (without the use of narcotics or opiates), return me to a level of mobility and independence, and improve the quality of my life. And he has succeeded. My body does however, continue to occasionally act up, requiring additional treatment - but Dr. Gunawardane is always there to make it better "one pain at a time." His methods of treatment successfully remove the impediments and limitations created by being in constant pain and have allowed me the freedom to get on with my life. He is continually reevaluating his treatment methods to include new state of the art techniques and information to ensure all of his patients and I receive the very best care possible. I admire him so much and think he is amazing because he has dedicated his life to helping each of his patients to live pain free so they can get back to fully enjoying their lives. He is and will always be my TOP DOC! I am so very grateful that he has become a valued part of my life.

These can't be recent reviews, have a look on the ENTIRE-net. The high ratings must be Dr. G's, employees the low ratings are the experience you'll have. I was referred by his wife as most of us are (which IS against the law) & I AM treated the same way. The receptionist is rude & unprofessional, I wait for 55 min. in the waiting room, & 20 min. in the back. If he does come (3x I've been handed off to "Ashley" whoever she is)..he doesn't wash his hands, takes calls, asks me questions but doesn't listen to my replies, & his treatment for everything..shots at the center HE owns. I've been a patient for 6 months and I still don't know why I'm in pain... I called to refill a prescription, the receptionist LIED to me saying "we never fax prescriptions to pharmacies, you have to come to the office" What?? ALL of my medications get faxed, I've never had to go to the office. I live in PA it'll be 4 days before I can get there I WORK & have physical therapy. I'm going to tell them face to face… why I am firing them!!

If you don't have insurance this man will not help you. He has very poor bedside manner. I wouldn't have him examine my dog. Horrible experience.
