I took my child to this doctor on a referral of a friend who must have had a great experience with her, but she spent a total of 3 minutes with us and decided that because my 2 year old was curious, getting into things, playing with dixie cups, climbing in and out of chairs, and cried and refused the hearing test that she must be delayed and said so with pretty abrupt and unprofessional tone, which shocked me and sent me home in tears. The audiologist was amazing and comforted me, reassuring me that my child was behaving like all the 2 year olds they see, and that I was doing the right thing by checking her hearing as a first rule out for why she isn't speaking much yet. I have reported back to my pediatrician and won't be wanting to return for a second try at the hearing test, at least not under this physician. If she wants to treat my sweet 2 year old as if she's a feral animal, she doesn't get the privilege of working with us. She failed to establish trust, right off the… bat. Besides that, she wasn't qualified to make the assessments she did, and as my retired Navy father indicated in disgust when he was told what happened, "That's not how you handle letting a parent know about a problem with a child, even if you really do suspect it. You tell them you're going to recommend a few other tests, but you don't bluntly label their child. It's unprofessional, hurtful, and lacks bedside manner and compassion." She's not a developmental pediatrician. She's an ENT. And she teaches other physicians. I can't believe it. I was truly disgusted and it took me most of the day to recover from the shock and emotions she set off. I'm a professional also, but she didn't know that and she treated me as if I was in denial over my child's development.
