Dr. Valerie Sugiyama

I have been going to Dr. Sugiyama for almost 5 years. She saved my my life, her staff dealt with the insurance issues. She is caring, kind and a top notch. If she is your doctor consider yourself fortunate.

Took time to listen to me and help me through my entire diagnosis and treatment.

She was a very caring doctor. She spent a long time discussing my diagnosis with me and walked me through the treatment pathways.

Dr. Sugiyama is one of the best doctors I have came across. She went out of her way to do my moms surgery after being diagnosed with Cancer. She is very professional and very intelligent. She explained everything so clearly and easily. I am beyond grateful for her promptness to do the surgery.

Dr. Sugiyama helped to truly save my life, along with other qualified doctors, while she was working at Boston Medical Center, after it was determined that I had a large mass that she later indentified as being Cancer. Neither my former PCP and/or her referred Radiologist ever followed-up with me and my repeated complaints of symptoms. Without Dr. Sugiyama, I wouldn't still be alive. I am forever grateful to her and "my dream team at Boston Medical Center." I wish she didn't relocate to CA, but always wish her the best. Namaste.

Great doc. Caring and takes time with her patients.

I had a mixed experience here, but overall I decided this hospital and doctor weren't for me.The people who answer the phone in the gyn oncology office sometimes sounded bored and uninterested. After our consultation I left messages twice for Dr. Sugiyama regarding surgery and didn't get a response, though I'm not sure if it was the staff or Dr. Sugiyama at fault for that oversight. I was scheduled for cat scans which, it turned out, weren't covered by my insurance! I fortunately checked on that myself before I had them done and saved myself a few hundred dollars (more?) out of pocket. I later learned that the scans aren't usual and customary for my condition, which was why the insurance wouldn't cover them.Dr. Sugiyama spent a lot of time with me, she answered all my questions with care and sincerity. The problem was, for me, she's very young and I didn't feel entirely confident in her ability to handle complications. She may be entirely competent, and probably is, but I didn't get… that. When I go under anesthesia in surgery, I want to feel absolutely confident. She got her full license in 2009.Overall I wasn't impressed with the hospital or the waiting area, and the kindness and attentiveness of the office staff was hit or miss. It all just didn't work for me.
