I have been a patient of Dr. Vanessa M. Shami since 2015, when my GI doctor relayed that I needed to see a specialist. Dr. Shami is one of the friendliest and approachable doctors that I have. Complicated health situations can be quite intimidating and overwhelming, and she has the gift of communicating in layman's terms and is making you feel at ease. The entire surgical process is efficient and seamless. Dr. Shami's nurse and the whole staff at the Endoscopy Unit at the UVA's Digestive Health Center are well organized and personable. As a patient, I can attest to Dr. Shami's sincere and empathetic manner – without hesitation; I highly recommend Dr. Shami.

I cannot express how grateful I am for Dr. Shami. I have had endoscopes for several years at another facility and did not know or was told by that Dr. the problems that I had. Dr. Shami was very thorough in explaining my problems with such patience and grace. She is very professional and knowledgeable. She really takes the time to talk with you and is genuinely concerned for her patients. Gwen Gordon

I waited so long on phone calls I never received....I have been sick for almost 4 months chronic pain and vomiting daily....lost over 80 lbs and for some reason they still didn't feel urgent to call me back....I was dying and it took Cleveland clinic to help and get it done fadr
