Dr. Varsha Sadhu Karamchandani, MD

Dr. Varsha is the first physician to take my symptoms seriously. I had been seeing doctors for YEARS, and they all have just wanted to diagnose me with depression, and just prescribe antidepressants (which aren't effective as a single solution for my disorder). My FIRST visit Dr. Varsha listened to ALL of my symptoms and experiences on what had been going on with me for 31 years and she was able to correctly diagnose me with bipolar disorder versus major depressive disorder. She was also able to diagnose other problems that i had been experiencing along with the bipolar symptoms that i didn't even know were related. She is very knowledgeable about many psychiatric disorders. I recommend Dr. Varsha to anyone and everyone who has been having trouble with other physicians taking them seriously or over prescribing incorrect medications. She was able to prescribe me a very effective medication regime, and it honestly has changed my life. I have noticed a huge difference in my daily… life, and everyone around me has also noticed and has made comments to me that whatever i had done was working! You honestly have no idea the relief that i have felt being validated and treated accordingly. She doesn't over medicate and monitors very closely to make sure that it is the correct dosage and that it's at maximum effectiveness, without just continuously increasing dosages without valid cause. She also suggests holistic things that would help such as doing some yoga to combat anxiety, and breathing exercises when you're feeling overwhelmed, so isn't just about throwing medications at you. She spends your visits evaluating how your medications are working, but she also talks to you about how you've been and how everything is going. She is able to remember important things that have been happening in your life and genuinely cares that you are on the right track and doing well. I can't recommend her enough! Even though she doesn't take insurance, it's MORE than worth any money that she would charge. She will also give you paperwork and receipts to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement (if that's something your insurance does, that is up to you to figure that out however). Long story short, 5 out of 5 for sure!

A few years ago I had an experience with traditional psychiatrists, I thought her holistic approach may be an answer to improving my current bout with my mental health. Instead of focusing on healing and recommendations to remedy my mental health, she focused on her diagnosis and ignored my opinion and my request for no medication. She was very judgemental and unrealistic about my situation. She told me if I didn’t have mental health issues I would have been over my breakup that triggered my depression in 1-2 days like other people who do not have these issues. Unless your robot or some lifeless being that was totally impractical.

Misdiagnosed which I suspected and softly explained to her. She would not hear it. I explained that my symptoms of ADHD and finally after two years of seeing her she agreed. She does not like to be questioned and has a dictorial manner in sessions. If you need to reach inner issues to make that leap this is not the physician. You can walk out of the office worse then how you felt coming in.

Compassionate, understanding, caring and extremely intelligent with insight.

Dr. Varsha had really upset a number of other patients who have reviewed her with her "dictatorial" manner. I have seen six psychiatrists over 17-years and four of them were turn-keys. I went to them, told them what they wanted to hear, and they gave me the medication I wanted. Dr. Varsha will not allow herself to be manipulated. She knows her profession, knows all the latest research, and she challenges every manipulation I throw at her. I trust her deeply because I know that she understands the manifestations of my bipolar II and has brought me to a state of mental health, often kicking and screaming against her challenges to my manipulations. If you are looking for a psychiatrist who will maintain the status quo and not help you improve, please do not see her. If you are ready to go on an adventure of mental/physical health with someone who knows how to improve your quality of life, stop complaining and come along for the ride.

This doctor was absolutely non caring, brutal in her opinions and very judgemental. In all the sessions I had with her, she made no efforts to hear my issues or try to help in managing them. I always left there feeling worst than when I came. I felt very mentally traumatised by her treatment. Finally, i had enough sense to stop seeing her. My suggestion is to not see this Dr. But if u do stop seeing her if your mind tells u right away that somethings not right by her treatment towards you!

Not caring or sympathetic. Be aware.
