Dr. Victoria Nee, MD

No one has helped me or listened to me as well as Dr. Nee. I have moved out of state twice since leaving chicago and have wished along the way that I’d find someone like her again. She just came to mind, all these years later (9!), and I was just reflecting upon her care and just how special she is. If I were living in chicago, I’d be sure to reach out to her again. Wonderful bedside manner, unparalleled by any doctor I’ve ever seen.

Dr. Nee is very kind and compassionate. She is incredibly good at what she does. I could never thank her enough for what she has done to change my life in such a positive way.

I have had 4 doctors since being diagnosed with ADD in the 90s and Dr. Nee is the one I have been most thankful for. She has never given up on me and is always thinking in my best interest. She is understanding and an excellent listener. And she never gets impatient with my rambling! She is also not trying to throw every medication at you and really takes into account your life and your struggles before suggesting anything. She may not have a staff, but really the assistants in doctor's offices are never charmers, so that makes no difference to me. I think she is a great doctor.

Love Dr. Nee. A psychiatrist with whom I had developed a good rapport recommended her to me when she moved out of the state. Fortunately, Dr. Nee was able to fit me into her (very popular) practice. As others have mentioned, Dr. Nee stresses the importance of lifestyle; medicine can only do so much, she says, when your eating, exercising, and sleeping habits are subpar. She is thorough, ordering comprehensive labwork to screen for other culprits that may contribute to mental disorder. She is aggressive in her approach to medication, so that months don't go by without any (or with only minimal) changes to your regimen if you don't see results. (I had a psychiatrist who was much more conservative. A year passed and I was on the same underperforming medication, just at a slightly higher dose.) And she's knowledgable and up-to-date on the most recent literature. To the reviewer who labels her disrespectful: Yes, Dr. Nee might eat or snack during your appointment, but she always asks for… your permission before doing so. She is frank about emails, admitting that her inbox is sometimes so inundated that she might miss a message, which is why she tells you that the best way to get a hold of her is by phone. (She always, always returns phone calls.) No response to your email? Simple: Call her and let her know. Dr. Nee is nothing if not responsible and accommodating. Speaking of which, she doesn't charge you if you're late to an appointment or must abruptly cancel, and her hours are great for those who have a tough time getting away from the office during the day. I highly recommend her.

I had been going through a very dark time and have always been reluctant to go on anti-depressants; I am the type of person that prefers to go the holistic route. Dr. Nee was so kind and compassionate. I expressed to her my concerns regarding medication and told her I preferred alternative methods. After a thorough question and answer period with everything from my family history to my eating and exercise habits, she suggested I consider changing my diet. She told me about the Paleo diet which I had heard of before but had not paid much attention. We discussed it in length. She suggested since I so strongly did not want to go on anti depressants that I give that a try. We decided that I would meet a month later to see how I was feeling, we also decided that I would take a prescription for a very mild dose of Wellbutrin if I so chose to fill it. I immediately went home and researched Paleo diet, cleaned out my cabinets and COMPLETELY changed my diet. Within a week I was feeling… better than I had in YEARS. My energy level was through the roof, my mood swings had subsided, I no longer felt depressed. I was shocked at the transformation I had made in such a short time. I went back a month later and discussed this with Dr. Nee. We were both thrilled at the change. We agreed that as long as I stick to this dietary change I won't need to come back unless I felt I needed to. Well, it has been almost a year and I am happy to report that I still stick to that diet, and I have not needed to revisit her. We have spoken over the phone just as a check up and she is happy to hear that I am still happy and healthy. Dr. Nee has been nothing but kind and helpful, and for that I am so appreciative.

It took me a long time to admit to myself that I should see a psychiatrist. Glad I did, finally, and luckily I found Dr. Nee. I knew I was in the right place as soon as I walked into her comfortable, serene office space and she offered me organic green tea. She took the time to figure out whatâ??s going on with me and patiently explained in detail what I should expect from treatment, informed me about alternatives, and didnâ??t push me into taking medication, which I was afraid to do. I donâ??t know why I made such a big deal out of it, now that Iâ??ve been feeling 100% on a mood stabilizer for the past year. Since I started seeing Dr. Nee, Iâ??ve cleaned up my diet, started yoga classes, lost weight, and have much more energy, in addition to feeling stable and no longer intermittently depressed. I am fortunate to have a progressive, knowledgeable doctor who stays on top of the medical literature and goes to alternative medicine conferences regularly to continually learn how… best to help her patients. She totally helped me turn my life around and Iâ??m eternally grateful.

Sheâ??s absolutely the best psychiatrist Iâ??ve ever seen. I especially appreciate her open mind and holistic approach; there are very few psychiatrists with her breadth of knowledge about alternative methods for treating mental health issues. She wonâ??t just start scribbling on her prescription pad 5 minutes into an appointment. She listens, understands, and looks for the best ways to help me, which could involve dietary changes, supplements, relaxation exercises, or looking for medical reasons for mental symptoms. You definitely know youâ??re with an M.D. who remembers what she learned in medical school. None of my previous psychiatrists knew what I was talking about when I told them about my rare immune disorder, but she did, and since she does functional medicine, she gave me great ideas on how I can regulate my immune system to have fewer and less severe symptoms. She diagnosed hypothyroidism which was missed by several other doctors, referred me to a specialist for… treatment, and I canâ??t believe how much better I feel lately.

Dr. Nee has helped me so much and worked tirelessly with me on finding ways to get better, even when I was feeling hopeless about my situation. Iâ??ve referred a couple friends to her and would refer family to her if necessary. The therapist she referred me to for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder with a technique called EMDR is also terrific, and with their help, Iâ??ve made great strides and am looking forward to the future. Sheâ??s truly a dedicated physician. Thanks for saving my life, Dr. Nee!

Thank God for Dr. Nee! Iâ??ve been depressed probably since I was a child and am only now feeling really well for the first time in my entire life. Over the years, I tried many different medications and got a little improvement, but I always had some degree of sadness. Even psychotherapy for over 10 years off and on couldnâ??t lift the dark cloud, and I just plodded along for decades, functioning well enough to finish school, start a family, and get a good jobâ?¦..but I didnâ??t enjoy myself, though I got used to pretending that I was OK. I gave up hope of feeling happy during this lifetime until my last therapist, a psychologist at Northwestern, referred me to Dr. Nee. She came with an extremely high recommendation and I decided to start seeing her, especially after she was again recommended by a coworker who improved vastly under her care. I was able to get an appointment within a few days, and Dr. Nee did a very thorough evaluation, more thorough than any done by the 4 other… psychiatrists I saw in the past. She was able to correctly diagnose my problem and got me on the right medication, and I cannot thank her enough. I have no side effects, and I had no idea I could ever feel this good. I only wish that Iâ??d met her a long time ago!

I have been a patient for more than 2 years and could not be more satisfied. Her whole health approach has caused a transformation in my health and well being. She is the first doctor I've had who has demonstrated the importance of diet, exercise and sleep. I recommend her to anyone who is seeking a capable psychiatrist.
