Dr. Viji Sankar, MD

Born in a beautiful small town in North India, I completed my medical school training in Chennai (in South India) with honors. My quest for knowledge brought me to the U.S. I completed my internship, residency, and a year as chief resident at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit. The challenges of a fast-paced intensive care environment contrasted with the management of complex lung disease appealed to me. The pursuit of fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine and the lure of sunny California weather brought to me to Stanford University. After three fruitful years of training, family ties drew me to San Diego, where I joined Kaiser Permanente. I am board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. I am an active member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.
