Dr. Vincent Joseph Rollo, MD

Dr. Rollo was so informative,and compassionate. Left with no questions Did a wonderful job on my finger and excellent patient relation. The office crew was great also.

I injured my knee at the gym. Two days later, my knee and calf swelled up like a balloon, and I could not walk on the affected leg. I went to see Dr. Rollo because he was close (probably not the best criteria) and I could get an appointment to see him the next day (that was probably not a good sign either). His first diagnosis was "tennis knee," probably a strained calf. But since the calf was swollen, he ordered an ultrasound to rule out Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). This was a good call, since DVT can be life-threatening. The ultrasound was negative, so after another week of RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation), I went back to see him for a follow-up. He greeted me with "how's you arthritis"? But didn't I explain I injured my knee at the gym? By this time, I had developed a large effusion. He drained the effusion (again probably a good thing), gave me a cortisone shot, and ordered 4 weeks of PT. The PT order read "calf strain and DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease)". I… was furious, since we had never discussed the later AT ALL. I went to a great PT referred to me by a friend, who spent some time with me and examined my knee and leg. I had a locked knee (could not straighten my leg). Also pain on the inside of my leg between the femur and tibia. My knee swelled up 48 hours after my gym visit. All of these pointed to an undiagnosed meniscus tear. I sought out a qualified surgeon from Union Memorial, and ultimately needed surgery to correct the condition. A misdiagnosis can happen. But what gets me about this experience is that Dr. Rollo never ordered any imaging (X-Ray or MRI) to investigate either the osteoarthritis or to look for a meniscus tear. He never heard me that I injured my knee at the gym, but instead assumed that given my age it was arthritis (I do not have arthritis, and I have the pictures from the inside of my knee to now prove it!). And whenever I tried to talk in specific medical terms, he never changed over from using general terms. In summary, this was THE worst medical experience I have ever had.

I have quite the the injury to my shoulder and I have been given care that is precise and I know Exactly what I should not do for a proper healing.
