Dr. Vivian S Houng, MD

I had been going to her for several years for a yearly check-up and thyroid level check (I had half of my thyroid removed). She always stated my levels were normal and to stay on my dose. However, she never told me what those levels were or even compared them to the year prior (even though it changed significantly). This past year, I brought up a long list of complaints as to why I thought my levels were off (not all subjective, but objective things like weight gain). She contradicted every single thing I said (e.g. stop working out, that is what is causing your weight gain) and even went so far as to eventually tell me to just take up yoga and see a psychiatrist for my problems. Depression is a sign of hypothyroidism, it doesn't take a genius to know this. I have never felt so disrespected by a health care professional in my life. I refuse to see her again and go to an endocrinologist instead. I'm considering filing a formal complaint. No patient should be dismissed like… that.

I want to echo the other comments. I've been seeing Dr. Houng every few months for over a year. Initially related to ADHD, but because I trust her, I go to her with almost all my concerns. I have had lots of great doctors in my life, including specialists in Norman, but I have not had anyone who listens so well to such a wide variety of concerns. While I often leave with prescriptions, I also leave with handouts on stress reduction techniques, information on supplements, dietary advice, and general wellness information. I feel like she cares about improving my quality of life and overall symptoms, not just finding a drug to fix whatever is bothering me, and then another drug to fix the side effects of the first one, etc.

Dr. Vivian Houng is absolutely excellent. She takes time to answer all your questions and is truly concerned about the welfare of her patients. Highly recommend.

Dr. Houng is hands down the best doctor I've ever visited. Very caring and attentive.

I have had some great primary care doctors in the past, but Dr Houng is perhaps the very best of all. She listens well, and considers a concern in full life-context, respecting one's questions & reasoning. She educates about health care, doesn't just sell drugs. She is thorough, accessible, and attentive. I trust her.

Dr Houng EDUCATES her patients for good health. She treats PEOPLE, not just symptoms.
