Dr. Walter Atlas, MD

Dr. Atlas, an Ophthalmologist at CEENTA in Matthews, misdiagnosed me resulting in permanent damage to my eyesight from Wet Macular Degeneration. I went to see him because I had ALL the signs of it. He never ran the proper tests and said it was only a floater! I couldn't even see letters in the center of the eye chart so he said,"just read the outer letters!". I saw blank spaces where there should have been letters. Doorways looked crooked, grayed out or missing text, etc. So 8 months went by and I was worried. I then went to a Dr. Lucy Deportes at CEENTA who did the PROPER testing when I complained of the same symptoms, and she was shocked to see I had Advanced Macular damage. She shook her head to see that Dr. Atlas only wrote that I had a floater. She told me to see a retinal specialist ASAP for treatment to prevent further damage. So now I have to get painful monthly eye injections. This review is very truthful and, I want to warn others in case it happens again to someone else.

I went for my yearly exam. I had changed physicians the year before to Dr. Atlas because I heard he is smart. He is smart but this year he gave me news about my eyesight that was worrisome with no explanation and no complete eye exam. I left the office thinking I was legally blind. His assistant did not communicate with me and neither did he. I was very disappointed. Since then, my insurance has changed again, I went to another physician who told me I was fine. I was at low risk for the other condition but my eyes were good except for cataracts. I am sorry to say I wouldn't recommend him. I was very disappointed.
