Dr. Walter Clifford Vogel, MD

this man does not deserve one star. I came to him when I began urinating blood. He assured me that is "normal" for a man my age, 64. Even went so far to tell me he peed blood at my age as did a friend of his. Foolishly I took him at his word and let it go. Less then 6 months latter my bladder is full of cancer, and into my kidney. This man should be fired before more lives are ruined. Thank God for St Marys Hospital, maybe they can still save me.

I wouldn't send anyone to this man for health care. My Dad was just 3 days shy of his 87th birthday when Walter Vogel gave him his first cancer treatment. Not one member of the family felt my Dad was strong enough to handle the treatment. Unfortunately, he was of the generation that didn't challenge people or ask questions of health care providers. They believed whatever suggestions made to them and discounted the family because they were the "professionals" and knew better than us. I think W.C.V. took advantage of this and persuaded my Dad to go ahead with the treatment. Vogel had full access to all the data on my father as his records were part of the Beloit Health Care system and knew full well how weak my Dad was from heart disease. He should have never suggested treatment. I also hated how he ran through the consent agreement an spoke very softly - again, knowing my Dad was hard of hearing. My Dad took the treatment but was so weak afterwards, he could not even sit up in… the wheel chair. Vogel came in and listened to his heart but told him he could go home. That night my Dad (Walter Mattelig) died. Two days later a nurse called my brother to say how "surprised" they were to hear of his passing. My brother challenged her response and she immediately turned into defensive mode and tried to rationalize that the treatment was appropriate. As if that wasn't bad enough, we just got a bill where they billed the insurance, medicare, and the family over $19,000. The unmitigated gall of these people! Just because someone signs a consent doesn't make it right. You'll notice that I did not once refer to Walter Vogel as a doctor - and with good reason.

Dr. Vogel had my mom doing the same chemotherapy she had done nine years prior. She is now 80 years old and when we took her for her second treatment she went into anaphylactic shock and almost died. If it weren't for the nurses professionalism and immediate response, my mom would have died. We took her back to Dr. Vogel and he then did a risk assessment which showed my mom was at a 78% risk of dying from the treatment. I found his behavior towards my mom inappropriate in that he was not treating her with respect and didn't bother to say goodbye when he was leaving. He was negligent in suggesting this treatment was the best for my mom. If he did the risk assessment before her treatment, my sister and I would have never encouraged her to have the treatment. Dr. Vogel was my father's oncologist and he died 11 years ago from lung cancer. My dad did not like Dr. Vogel and wanted me to find him another doctor. When my dad was dying, Dr. Vogel never advised my parents about palliative or… hospice care. My mom was picking him up off of the floor two nights before he died. She could have used some help.
