Dr. Wayne Edward Brunell, MD

Dr Brunell is a little quirky but he has really really helped me. I have struggles with a few mental illnesses since I was about 8 years old and I have made more progress with him in a few months than In the previous few years of therapy and psychiatry. Since Dr Brunell offers both, I think my treatment has been much more successful

I've never left one of these reviews, but this appointment was terrible enough to make me. I met with Dr. Brunell last week per a therapist's recommendation that I consider antidepressants, or another medication. I was a couple minutes late, he and his secretary reminded me (great way to make a patient feel comfortable, huh) and Dr. Brunell rushed through my visit. Very little natural conversation, rather answering very pointed questions, like whether I, a 20 year old, was impulsive or reckless (drugs and alcohol, casual sex, speeding). In 20 minutes, he diagnosed me with Borderline Personality Disorder, told me he wasn't good at treating it, recommended a book about BPD, and handed me a list of doctors. I've never had any mental health professional (social workers, psychiatrists, therapists) even hint at BPD. This man is clearly in it for the money. It's hard enough for people with mental illnesses to show up for treatment, our doctors don't need to make it even worse.

Jumps to misguided conclusions that lead to misdiagnoses. Terrible social skills that lead to an overall awkward, uncomfortable, and cringe-worthy experiences. I did not trust this doctor and can honestly say I regret giving him any personal information, as he made inaccurate conclusions before I could explain myself fully. Basically, think of all the traits/practices you wouldn’t want your mental health professional to exhibit, and he exhibits them all.

I saw Dr. Brunell many years ago for almost a year. He was covered by my insurance, which is the only way I could afford treatment. I still have nightmares about him and cringe thinking about our sessions. He was rude, insensitive, and condescending. I would cry after every appointment and became more depressed. I got much worse from seeing him. I also believe that he misdiagnosed me and prescribed medication that made me feel like a zombie.

I would recommend to anyone. Changed my life.

I saw Dr. Brunell for a year, basically because I could not find another psychiatrist. I found him condescending, inflexible, inpatient, unable to listen to me and hostile at times. I found him overly pathologizing and would leave visits feeling like there was something wrong with me. He lacks social skills and empathy. I would not recommend him.

He does not ask how you are doing when you enter the office nor does his secretary. (For me, please, thank you, and how are you are very important for me- even if you are on auto pilot). He also did not wish me a happy holiday (around the holiday season) after I had wished him a happy holiday twice as I was leaving. This did NOT make me feel like a person.I submitted my tests confirming a diagnosis (A 4000$ test with 8 hours of intense testing as well as a 25 page document report of this) which he ENTIRELY dismissed. Instead, he performed an 'evaluation' on me for the first 3 sessions and took 20 minutes out of one of our sessions to 'confirm' my diagnosis by reading the report (which was given the first day).Also, he always ends our sessions about 5 minutes earlier than they are expected to. When insurances are being billed so much, I feel like that I should be getting this quality of care.I would highly recommend another doctor.

Needs answers in stock form-- won't let me just tell him things. I never feel like he's actually listening to me to listen-- more like he's listening for key words.
