Dr. Wayne Allan Ury, MD

Dr. Ury's philosophy is that if you have ever been an addict (or as he told me directly if you have ever been addicted to opiates) you cannot indulge in any substance including marijuana or alcohol more than once a month. If you do not prescribe to this ideology or if your goal is not complete abstinence you cannot work with him, so I would caution against even trying to work together if you have any ideological differences with the statements above. He told me that "if you do any drug, it will give you a buzz, and that buzz and that buzz will lead you to relapse, and then you will die." I doubt Dr. Ury knows what it actually feels like to have lost friends to that exact death. I found what he said to be reductive, inconsiderate, stated as if it was a fact when it was completely speculative, and frankly dehumanizing. The doctor was clearly trying to employ fear tactics rather than information or facts. At one point, he literally told me that harm reduction wasn't possible.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ury for some 20 years. His knowledge of psychopharmacology and his "talk" therapy have been very helpful to me. Reaching him by phone could be a bit easier.

Very slow response phone calls. Waited at least a week. If he was out of town, there was no message about his being unavailable.

Dr. Ury is a remarkable psychiatrist; He is extremely thoughtful and attentive. He makes you feel completely comfortable and does not judge or dictate sessions. He is extremely insightful and determined to help treat problems. After years of treatment with other doctors and struggling to cope with my condition, I was referred to Dr. Ury and he accurately diagnosed my problem and identified the most effective course of treatment. I would highly recommend Dr. Ury.

He was kind and personable. He got to know me as a person. Asked great questions. He explained the diagnosis and the different treatment options. He helped me feel relieved. I think he's great !!
