Why do YOU go to a doctor? Our family goes to the doctor because we have health concerns. We want to be healthy, or we want to stay healthy. The good things that I can hear from a doctor is a logical explanation of symptoms and the research, what modern medicine has to explain or can investigate into the care of what's going on. A great doctor will be able to take the time to explain the pros and cons to the procedures, especially if there's questions or concerns (such as vaccines, reactions, schedules, xrays, or other health concerns) A great and humble doctor will admit when they're not inside their ordinary range of specialty or competence to answer a specific question or issue, instead of making up a reason or excuse on the spot. They can tell you where they're either coming from with their information or reference you to specialists. A very great doctor with humility and virtue will engage their patients as individuals and as families, considering their cultural,… religious, and philosophical belief systems when talking about the recommendations for care. This means having excellent listening skills and a personality that can engage both the adult parents, and the kids in the room. A very great doctor, with humility and virtues and a sense of moral obligation to their community might take on issues that happen at a state or national level and synthesize information to be able to share it with other families or even hospital staff and nurses, and make that information available to people that have concerns. Dr Wendy is that type of doctor. When NYS Govenor Cuomo removed religious exemptions for Vaccines for school children in 2019, Dr Wendy spent her summer in contact with schools and authorities such as the CDC to understand the requirements, implications, and possible workable solutions such as titer testing, for families with concerns or vaccine-sensitive members. When NYS called for volunteer doctors in NYC COVID-19 outbreak, Dr Wendy volunteered to go. When the local community in Saratoga Springs had concerns for understanding the COVID-19 virus, she led online video webinars sharing the most contemporary medical understanding - and how to help the hospital staff at the moment. If you have questions about family, or vaccines, or anything else - Dr Wendy is an excellent resource. She seeks to empower you as the caretaker and adult to make competent decisions with informed consent. She listens to understand your position. She's the kind of doctor that you're going to be happy that you visited, even if your issue was embarrassing or confusing. Dear reader, we've been happy to say we've been seeing Dr. Wendy for over three years. She's not afraid to engage with someone on a personal level, and that's remarkable and refreshing in today's day and age. I just wish there was a 6 star option.

To the person who said I was "overreacting" -- were you there? If it had only been one inquiry, I would tend to agree with you. But it was not. Regardless, it is an inappropriate question, and the doctor should have known that.

To the person who commented that Dr. Mayes-Beasly was getting to personal about why you didn't have children, you're definitely over-reacting!! I'm guess you're a new patient, and Dr. Mayes-Beasly probably just wants to get to know you..... I like Dr. Mayes-Beasly, I think she's smart, and is very nice!

I went to see Dr Mayes twice. The first time, she seemed to have concern about my long list of symptoms and complaints. I left her my medical records to review (at her request) and agreed to schedule a followup so she could review them. After coming back for the second appt, not only had she not reviewed anything, she wanted to know why I was there. She did not apologize for not reviewing anything and was more concerned about making sure the appointment was over in 15 minutes, since that is all she is allotted. Needless to say, I never went back. I have since been diagnosed with a severe case of lupus (which affects my breathing) and Epstein-barr reactivation. She's probably fine if you don't really need a doctor.

Dr. Mayes-Beasley is a very compassionate, caring person who goes “above and beyond” to answer your questions and provide the latest medical info. She is an independent thinker who won’t prescribe a medication or procedure just for the sake of prescribing it (or to rack up the bill). Having said that, I did have a concern over her question as to why I had chosen to not have children. You would like to think that a doctor has a good reason for asking such a question, which is why I was less reluctant to answer than I would have been with someone else. However, after informing her that there was no medical reason, such as infertility, this should have been the extent of her professional interest. Yet it was not. Now, there are many reasons why a woman would choose not to bear children, such as the need to support oneself, a job that requires extensive travel, the sheer expense required, and/or harboring an (apparently) archaic belief that single motherhood is absurd and that a… biological father should be more than just a sperm donor (gasp!) And not every woman has ‘Mom” around the corner to help out when she is abandoned by “baby-daddy” (which appears to be the norm nowadays). At any rate, one would like to be able to visit a doctor without being made to feel like a freak for making what one considers a responsible personal decision.
