Dr. Wendy Elias Wolfson, DO

Dr. Wendy has a nice website. She says all the right things. Unfortunately, she does don't put them into practice. 5 days after leaving a detailed voicemail (about my teen daughter suffering from anxiety and panic attacks), I never even received the courtesy of a reply. I then emailed through her website and got a curt email from someone with no title or contact information in her response stating she is not accepting new patients. Save the glamour shot, and actually manage the basics of a caring practice.

She clearly does not care about patients in the slightest and very obviously prioritizes money. The lack of actual patient consideration is astounding. She will disappear on vacations and not even consider reaching out to patients or having any form of contact with her. She will answer her phone during paid meetings and will cut meetings short while still charging the patient full price. She will also insist that you have meetings often, even when the patient does not need or want them. She also insists that she will respond to patient messages, either by phone or email, within 24 hours or 48 hours latest, but on average has taken WEEKS to respond and refill medications. This is the WRONG choice of doctor if you need legitimate patient care and consideration. She does not seem to have a depth of understanding of empathy to other people, which is actually essential to the practice of psychiatry. If I could have given her zero stars, I would have. DO NOT CONSIDER THIS "DOCTOR".

With so many other highly gifted and qualified professionals in the city- don't waste your time seeing this quack! All she cares about is herself and money!

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Wolfson's office. I never actually met Dr. Wolfson, although I was her patient for almost five months. Instead, I regularly met with her Nurse Practitioner. Prior to the first appointment, I assumed I would receive treatment from a psychiatrist, but this turned out not to be true. I was not told this beforehand, though. The NP was not thorough in her initial evaluation or in her follow-ups and prescribed me three medications with alarming side effects. When my symptoms worsened, she was unavailable --- I think she was out of the country at the time. Maybe it was one of the several times she went away for half the month and was virtually unreachable. Not only was this practice unsatisfying; it was dangerous. Dr. Wolfson charges for anything within and without reason, including a fee of $50 just to release medical records to another doctor. Dr. Wolfson interacts with her patients by e-mail. Instead of asking how you are feeling in her… emails, she sets out all the expenses you owe her. As a patient, I felt that Dr. Wolfsonâ??s only concern was collecting my money, and not caring for my health and safety.

The first few times I saw Dr. Wolfson I thought it could potentially be a good thing. She seemed very down to earth and did not seem judgmental at all, I felt relieved. However, it did sort of feel like she wanted to schedule as many appointments as possible to get you in and out, give you meds, and then move on to her next appointment. I should have known. I had an emergency and cancelled an appointment 30 hours beforehand, and I got a call the next day being told I'm being charged $85 dollars because the policy is 48 hours so she can book another appointment in your place if you cancel. It is incredibly disheartening to find a mental healthcare doctor who doesn't care at all about the mental health of their patients. She didn't seem to care I had an emergency and did my best to cancel, time is money (and not to mention a lot of it, especially for a struggling recent college grad). She doesn't care about you. She wants your money. However she can get it. However fast. … I expressed to her I had an emergency and tried to cancel as soon as possible, and don't really have the money to pay 85 bucks for a missing appointment. She doesn't care. That's the policy. Give me the money and I don't care if it gives you anxiety. So upsetting. I find it very tragic that I've had similar encounters with other mental healthcare professionals. It almost makes it not worth it to go seek out and get help. They should be ashamed of themselves. If you want to make money and don't care about other people's well being, go into a different profession. You're part of the problem. If you're seeking a Doctor who genuinely cares about you and your well being, I don't think Dr. Wolfson is the one for you.

Dr. Wolfson is fantastic. She listens to me and seems to have my best interest in mind. I never feel rushed. She has a nice balance of professionalism and care.

I really regret going to her. She sees her practice as a business and calls it a business in fact. She will retain your credit card and you will think it will be for a delinquent bill which is fairly standard for the protection of her practice which is fine. However, she will then charge it as she sees fit with no prior notice or authorization from you. She won't even let you know the amount, when she'll do it or even call you that she's doing it. She basically thinks she doesn't need to give you the courtesy of letting you know she's charging your card because she claims I signed something when all I signed was an agreement to pay for a missed appointment, which is again, standard. However, she thinks this means she can charge your card ASAP without notifying you, not bill you and give you a chance to pay it.I missed an appointment. I called within the hour of missing and left a voicemail to apologize and reschedule. Little did know, she had already without my knowledge… charged my credit card $85 instead of billing me. When I left a message apologizing for missing, she then TEXTED me back.Yes, TEXTED and spelled my name wrong no less. Very unprofessional. When I attempted to speak to her over the phone she hung up on me even though we were having an honest dialogue. She simply does not care about her patients and is only in it for the money. I explained my circumstances and she refused to give me a one time break for this mistake which I apologized for. Most practitioners will give you a break for your first missed appointment or be understanding at the very least.The appropriate thing to do would have been to bill me but she cares more about the money than notifying her patients and actually calling them versus texting them like we're 'buddies'.In my initial appointment with her, it seemed like she cared more about getting me in and out than listening to me. She kept her cell phone close by during the entire consultation. She was very dead-pan and you could tell she just wanted to complete the appointment and make the money she'd get so she could buy another pair of Louboutins. If you want a caring, empathetic psychiatrist, she is not it.
