Me and my partner recently went to Spalding Regional Hospital (SRH) for moderate lower back pain and severe abdominal cramps my partner was experiencing due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). We arrived at 9:20pm and weren't discharged until 6:30am., 9 hours later (5 hours of which were just sitting around waiting in the waiting room while my partner suffered) (Minus 1 hour do to the time-change). Upon arrival at SRH, my partner told both the receptionist and nurse (that he saw in Triage) that he was feeling nauseous and was currently in a great amount of abdominal pain and has been vomiting and defecating blood. He also told both the receptionist and nurse that his family has a history of Crohnâ??s Disease and Diverticulitis. Finally, he stated to both the receptionist and the nurse that he has allergies to Sulfonamide medications and aspirin (NSAIDS -- Anti-Inflammatory) based drugs/medications. My partner had his vitals taken, had a CT scan, had blood… work done, and gave a urine sample. To make an exasperating story short -- After waiting and waiting, we were finally called back into one of the ER rooms where we waited for another 2 hours without receiving any medications for my partners nausea, dehydration, and pain. We NEVER once saw the doctor. But after a total of 9 hours of waiting, we were rewarded with being discharged with Zofran (for nausea) and Ultram (for pain), of which my partner is highly allergic too so he cannot take it. We asked our nurse to see the doctor and she responded that he's so busy he doesn't have time to see us. So we asked for another doctor, and the nurse said there were no other doctors available that we could see. In addition, my partner was never given his diagnosis. My partner's vitals were never taken upon being discharged. And the doctor wrote to follow up with a Primary Care Physician or Family Doctor for further abdominal problems. ....My partner went to a Gastroenterologist today and found out he has IBS, UC, and an infection. So the Gastroenterologist had to send my partner back to an ER to fix the problem that wasn't resolved by Dr. Wesley Leigh.
