Dr. W. Timothy Ballard, MD

Dr. W. Tim Ballard is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in total joint replacement. With more than 30 years of surgical experience in Chattanooga, Dr. Ballard has built his career helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life through advanced joint care and a patient-specific approach. Dr. Ballard graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wright State University with top honors in the College of Science and Engineering before earning his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. After completing five years of orthopaedic residency training at the University of Iowa, he went on to complete a subspecialty fellowship in adult …hip and knee reconstruction and replacement at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Ballard’s early interest in total joint replacement led to more than 30 research publications, book chapters, and scientific presentations. He served six years on the program committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Recognizing the growing need for a total joint specialist in the region, Dr. Ballard joined Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in 1996. Since then, he’s completed more than 30,000 joint replacements and thousands of arthroscopic surgeries – specializing in hip and knee replacement and revision, complex total joint reconstruction, knee arthroscopy, and lower extremity trauma.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Ballard enjoys spending time with his wife, Erika, their five children, and six grandkids. Whether hiking, biking, or just exploring the beautiful Tennessee outdoors, the Ballard family loves making memories together. Dr. Ballard says he remains continually amazed by God’s grace and considers it a privilege to care for His people every day.
