My daughter had children's cataracts diagnosed at about age 8.... All eye doctors thru her life said they were not big enough too remove..... At age 26 her regular eye doctor said "take her too UVA too get them removed"..... At UVA hospital the eye doctor barely looked at her, and said they are not ready too remove...I argued with him and told him she had been regressing for years..... She stopped talking, watching tv, just staring all the time...not wanting too do anything and this went on about 10 years... When I argued with him, he called in a female doctor after talking too her in the hall for 5 min....She came in and looked at Hannah's eyes and said "Her eyes are fine". Both said "HER PROBLEM WAS MENTAL" About a month later I was getting my eyes checked at Walmart in Charlottesvlle, Va.... This was the doctor that diagnosed her cataracts when she was a child .. I told her what UVA said she said "May I look at her eyes" She said "Oh no!!!! She has snowballs on her… eyes" On a suggestion from.her case worker I took her too VCU Dr. Benson.. He asked "How long has she not talked." I said "Over 8 years" He said "She has been blind about that long and because they weren't removed when they should have been her eyes may not have developed properly.....She will see but not as good as she could have, if they would have gone on and removed them years ago........ At last a doctor that cared and told the truth...... Dr. Benson and nurses are awesome...He removed her cataracts and it wasn't the easiest child they ever had, but they did it.... She is looking at newspapers, books and watching tv.. When we go to Florida now she can see the boats, dolphins.......Still all those things she knew has too be taught all over again.........Not right for a hospital too do this too a child!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Benson and staff are awesome!!!!!!!! First hospital we have been too that really cared .... Thank u Dr. Benson I have my Hannah back!!!!!! Mrs Vickie Hartley Stanardsville, Va.....

I have never seen any doctor be as rude and unhelpful as this man, it was bizarre.If he has personal problems he needs to seek counseling.

Dr Benson was rude and abrupt with me during our appointment. He pointedly made disparaging remarks about my ophthalmologist who referred me to him. He said there was nothing he could do to improve my eyesight and I would have to live with my eye condition. I sought a 3rd opinion in Northern Virginia with another doctor who restored my eyesight to what it was prior to my bout with Shingles.
