Dr. William Joseph Beutler, MD

I lived with severe leg pain that caused my life to no longer exist, I could not walk with out severe pain, I was home bound. I went to see Dr. Beutler. He took his time explained, explained my problem and my options. I chose surgery and I am now pain free and can walk again.Dr. Beutler is not only a top notch neurosurgeon, but one of the kindness doctors I ever met. If you need a neurosurgeon pick Dr. Beutler Thank you Dr. Beutler you gave me a 2nd chance

I suspect the time waiting in the reception area and in the consulting room to see Dr. Buetler was the result of his concern to spend as much time as needed with each previous patient. He did a thorough examination of me and answered clearly every question I had. There was no rush. He listened carefully and gave me reasonable answers when I mentioned symptoms the might or might not be related to my spine problems (lumbar stenosis, a spinal problem that he explained in plain English -- he even pointed out the procedure on the wall chart). But he also made clear the decision to operate or not was mine to make. His advice was that if he were me, he would try other things first and only opt for surgery as a last resort. His follow-up was excellent: physical therapy and, since one of my concerns based on what I had considered symptoms was that I was developing Parkinson’s, a referral to a clinic that could help me resolve that worry. He was also very clear that based on the thorough… examination he had done of me, I probably did not have Parkinson’s. A final point: The people in the REGISTRATION area of the PA Spinal Institute were not friendly. The young man who checked me in (took my money, etc.) clearly was bored with his job, spoke like a robot, and even tried to arrange for me to have x-rays there. I refused the e-rays because I had recently had an MRI, and he could not, or would not, verify that my insurance would cover the cost of the x-rays. However, once I got through the door and saw Andrea, everything was fine. She is a Certified Medical Assistant who works directly with Dr. Buetler, and manages to be both efficient and able to treat patients like human beings. Before I got through the door and had a chance to deal with Andrea, I was really considering finding an alternative to the PA Spinal Institute, Not needed now.

I read reviews online and Dr. Beutler was even better than I expected! He was such a calm, caring man. He took his time to understand my neck issues, and then walked me through the step-by-step process of his thinking for my care. I also waited less than 10 minutes from my appointment time to see him. My primary care doctor highly recommended him, and now I know why. I wish all of my doctors were as wonderful as Dr. Beutler!

pain at two levels in spine. doctor said pain rarely comes from last disc on spine even though discogram showed it was painful. he did not correct that disc. spent years in pain due to this error. he did apologize. Very thoughtful and concerned doctor. the reason for my review is to make people aware that good doctors make mistakes. Ask questions....make your own decisions....

I absolutely adore Dr. Beutler! He is a life saver. I have had 2 laminectomy/discectomies done and he is a miraclr worker. I searched for a surgeon for 8 months until I found Dr. Beutler. He is a neurosurgeon as well as an orthopedic surgeon and he is VERY conservative. I had back problems for almost 20 years and when I saw my very first doctor in 1998 they immediately wanted to fuse my spine. Well I didn't think that should be the first option. Dr. Beutler will tellyou THE TRUTH and what is best for you. He doesn't push a bunch of unnecessary treatments on you. He is brilliant, amazing and very, very kind and compassionate and I would never go to anyone else when/if I need another surgery. Thank you, Dr. Beutler...for giving me my life back!

Dr. Buetler told me he is a surgeon, surgery is what he does and I don't need surgery because I just have some arthritis. Interesting, he determined that after looking at a year and a half old MRI and a 1 minute exam. He did however, tell me he would order a new MRI, if I wanted one. If I wanted one??? Maybe I should chew his meal for him? So, off I went to Lancaster to see another neurosurgeon. The new neurosurgeon ordered a new MRI before I got to see him (I didn't have to ask!). After my appointment and 2 more tests he determined I need a lumbar fusion but, if I can, to wait a year or so. Stay away from Dr. Buetler, he wants things easy and fast - can't be bothered spending time to figure out the problem.

Going elsewhere. Would not trust him operating on my spine. Unprofessional.

I am so happy with the outcome of my surgery. Dr.Beutler is a very compassionate doctor I would not trust any other doctor with performing surgery on my spine..

I would never recommend Dr. Beutler to anyone. His bedside manner was horrible. His staff was unfriendly. He did not spend adequate time or do any tests. Stay far away from this quack!
