Dr. William Jay Brownstein, MD

I met DR Bill 36 years ago, when the original pediatrician didnt show up to the delivery of my 1st. He was very compassionate and helpful thru my delivery. Ultimately I picked him to continue care for my newborn. Him & Dr. Dave always gave everything they had to the wellbeing of my child and myself during some health concerns with my oldest. He would call us and ask "Hows Mom doing? Hows baby doing?" when my oldest was 13 she was having another emergency - she walked in the front door and he didnt make her come in any further told her to get back in car and go straight to CCMC and he would have the best neurologist waiting for her! He did and he called me on the way to CCMC and told me what he thought she had and the Neurologist would take good care! Well he was 100% correct. So needless to say when my 2nd child was born - (15 years apart) there were no questions. He has cared for my girls, my nephew and now my grandbaby goes to this practice and loves Dr. Knox. Best… practice in Bristol!

We with DR Brownstein for 5 years and he was ok until the children were sick. When my child had a severe issue, he dismissed my concerns, told me I was overreacting and well as adding a note to my child's file saying there was nothing else that could be done. Luckily another (better doctor) in his office actually looked at our child, saw there was definitely an issue, and referred us to a specialist which found the issue that would have caused blindness if left untreated. This was the final straw which forced us to switch doctors. We had 2 other issues where they dismissed our concerns. In one of the events where our concerns were dismissed my child ended up in the emergency room because he had trouble breathing. In the other event he dismissed developmental concerns (he refused to just fill out the paperwork to just get him evaluated) for a child which was later diagnosed as ADHD by his new pediatrician. Basically if you just need a pediatrician to just push antibiotics then… he's your man. If you need a real doctor that cares and really takes the time to look at your child and understands your concerns then look elsewhere. If he does not care any more maybe he should consider retiring.

Dr. Brownstein is probably the most competent in the practice but lacks the bedside manner of his colleague Dr. Ward. He can be out of patience with parents and does not seem to want to be bothered with questions.
