He always seemed very rushed and when I was asking questions he was answering them as he was walking out the door seemingly trying to avoid any more questions. This was a day surgery and once the surgery was completed and I woke up in recovery I was experiencing a lot of pain. While at the hopital pain control was very good. When preparing to leave the nursing staff stated that Dr. Chleborad had prescribed Vicodin to control pain, I explained to them that Vicodin was not an effective drug that I would ask for something more effective. She said that the Dr. would not change the prescription. So this is what I went home with. I took a Vicodin prior to leaving and went home with little discomfort so I assumed that the pain medications were indeed sufficient and I had been wrong. Well, that was not to be the case. Approximately 4 hours after leaving the hospital (and enough time for the morphine and fentanyl to wear off as well as the numbing they did at the incision) I was in… excrutiating pain. I tried to contact the clinic and the hospital to remedy the situation, the only thing they could offer was to take 2 of the Vicodin which is in fact mostly (tylenol) and by doing so I would be taking too much of it and potentially causing liver damage. It was not until the next day that I found even a modicum of relief with a new prescription for Percocet and again it fell short of actually relieving the pain to an acceptable level. I spent 5 days and nights extremely uncomfortable with little or no sleep due to his lack of concern and care to pain control. Wnd further when I did ask him for a stronger pain control I would like to note that I asked for a limited prescription; one for only 3-5 days. Something just to get through the worst of the pain and then move on to the others. I would strongly recommend speaking about pain control prior to any surgery you may have and find out what your Doctors particular views are on pain control.
