Dr. William Etzler Daner III, MD

Dr. Daner completed a Total Shoulder Replacement on my left shoulder. Dr. Daner is kind, caring, friendly and did an amazing job! My surgery could not have gone better. After surgery I was able to control pain with only Ibuprofen although pain medication was available if I was experiencing severe pain. Never did. Ibuprofen was not needed after five days. I have a really low tolerance for pain too. Great work. Thank so much Dr. Daner

Two shoulders, two doctors, two total shoulder replacement surgery’s Based upon the subject I think I have the right to evaluate. Had my left shoulder done 5 years ago at Straub, Honolulu. Spent the first two years in PT and excruciating pain, which I still experience today off and on. Had an MRI, injected with a radioactive material to do a ultrasound. Couldn’t find out what was wrong. Four years later, my right shoulder was evaluated with bone on bone, surrounded by bone spurs. Had daily pain in the 5-6 range, daily. So, you can see why I wasn’t the most idea candidate to have another surgery. Thought I could live with it, WRONG. I couldn’t. Had a new orthopedist, Dr. Dawson in Hilo who did my right knee, which went amazingly well, so I thought, what the heck. On a visit to his office, he said that a visiting Doctor from Trippler, who also is an orthopedist, also a shoulder specialist, who just happens to visit Hilo once a month. Dr. Daner. Today has been 16 days since my… surgery. Pain, what pain, discomfort and sore at times, but no pain (except for one moment about 3 days after surgery). Already had my first PT session, again no pain, discomfort yes, but no pain. How would I evaluate Dr. Daner, he’s no doctor, magician, sorcerer or wizard. Definitely a Saint, but doctor extraordinaire. In closing, if you live Oahu, Hilo or anyplace on this planet, he’s the only one I would go to. And yes, I’m even considering him redoing my left shoulder.

I’m an Army retiree. I also have epilepsy. During one of my seizures, I broke the socket and bone of my left shoulder. He repaired that so I have full function of my left shoulder. He also repaired my right knee due to a lateral ligament that shattered when I had a fall. I’m walking well with little pain after 6 months of rehab. I would recommend him to anybody needing an orthopedic surgeon. He is friendly and knowledgeable and takes the time to answer any question that you have.

I’d like to tell you about the wonderful work that Dr. Daner does I had my surgery in May 2025 in February 2025 I had lost my wife I had consultations with Dr. Daner before her death. Dr. Daner took the time to call me personally, give his condolence but more so he wanted to know if my head is gonna be clear enough in the right mind for the surgery and did we need to postpone it? I said I was OK. He did an excellent job. I don’t believe my pain level after the surgery ever reached two and compliments to the therapy staff for helping me get through this in my last visit. Dr. Daner was reviewing my left shoulder because I had overstrained it during the consultation, he asked me about my right shoulder because of my arm movement I know from a previous MRI that my right shoulder has the same issues as my left shoulder, but must be stronger because it’s primary so I confirmed with him at that point it will need to be looked at in the future. I’m not looking forward to having a surgery, but… I know my right shoulder will be done with the same amount of expertise that I received on my left. Aloha Dr. Daner!!!

From the moment I met him, his brilliant mind and undeniable "swag" reminded me of a real-life Dr. Gregory House—he is clearly a superstar in his field who knows exactly what he is doing. I came to him with a devastating injury: I severed the quadricep tendons in both of my knees and lost all mobility. Dr. Daner performed a flawless surgery that was nothing short of miraculous. I also appreciate that during the recovery phase; he was wise enough to "protect me from myself" by recommending full casts on both legs. That decision was vital in preventing re-injury. Six months later, I am walking normally again, a result I once feared might not be possible. Dr. Daner is truly a master of his trade. If you want a surgeon with unmatched skill and the confidence to back it up, he is the one. Thank you, Dr. Daner, for giving me my mobility back!

He performed surgery on my shoulder, and the procedure went very well. He was very specific about what I could and could not do during recovery. Prior to the surgery, he explained everything thoroughly and in clear detail.

Absolute professional and a truly masterful Orthopedic surgeon. After almost 32 years in the Army my hips gave out and I was very blessed to have Dr Daner execute bi-lateral hip replacements. Changed my life. 6 years on and my bionic hips are doing great. Thank you Dr Daner for being the phenomenal Orthopedic Doctor that you are and for positively impacting the lives of so many. Simply put “the Orthopedic Magician.”

Dr. Daner did an amazing job! His bedside manner is top notch. He walked me through my whole treatment plan starting conservatively which eventually led to by bicep tenodesis. The surgery went smooth and the recovery process was seamless. I was worried about scaring, but it was all very minimal! One year post op and I am at 90%. Thank you Dr.Daner!

Dr. Daner was able to zero in on my health concern. He is very knowledgeable, professional and is thorough with follow-ups before and after surgery. I highly recommend his expertise!

Poor after care explanation. After care protocols are downloaded and generalized and are not explained in person. Nicotine users are all but written off by Dr Danner and treated poorly. Consistently changes mind during visit and makes it hard remember what was discussed. Not a people person. Better to just work his craft. Probably watches to many medical dramas and uses that as a basis of being a doctor
