Dr. William Joseph Gallagher, MD

He is courteous and clear and realistic when describing treatment. He visited me every day in the hospital after surgery. He is professional and easy to talk to.

My visit with Dr. Gallagher was very unsettling. He immediately said surgery was necessary and that as a doctor he dealt in worse case scenarios, so even though my mammogram and ultrasound came out clear he suggested there could be serious issues. He didn't do a thorough exam. He made many crass statements and generally was not someone I would want to deal with if I do indeed have something serious to deal with. I got a second decision and this person did a thorough exam and suggested the next step to be a ductogram to rule out any possibility of cancer anywhere in the breast. Although she could go straight to surgery and remove the duct, she then would not know if there were further issues that were not seen with surgery. Anyway, for me, a different doctor with a better, kinder and more professional attitude worked better. I understand from other sources that he is a competent surgeon, but for me I needed more!

I had a great experience with Dr. Gallagher and his staff. He was thorough, knowledgeable and patient with our questions. I, of course, have scars but they are healing nicely and I believe are evidence of a skilled surgeon. He made me smile during very difficult times and put me at ease. If I had to have breast cancer, I'm glad Dr. Gallagher was my surgeon.
