Dr. William Wayne Hollifield, MD

Very rude! I have been in 3 different hospitals since christmas morning when I collapsed in the shower. I had prior drug abuse history from 2014 when I contracted endocarditis and required open heart surgery. Very traumatic experience as I was hospitalized for 4 months. I have been sober since 2014. In Shands hospital it was found I have a rare hypercoagulation syndrome called protein c deficiency. A huge clot was removed by surgeon dr tom martin. Dr martin is an angel on earth. I was told I needed clearance from addiction medicine in order to go home on vacomycin to protect the new surgical site from infection which is administered through a picc line. I answered all of his questions (which were very strange as I have been offdrugs for 5 years) and felt quite bullied I to the fact I am no longer in a 12 step program. I completed both AA and NAs steps. He told me i needed to attend NA meetings and blah blah blah. I actually have a degree and work as a group counselor at a treatment… center in deland. My method involves cbt and behavior therapies. I know what is scientifically proven and what is not. Not knocking NA by any means it definitely helped me the first 2 years of my sobriety by gaining self confidence to reach out to old friends whom are not addicts and to make new friends who are living a lifestyle congruent to mine. He made it seem as if me being released was contingent on his "approval". When he came in again the following morning with another man asking the same questions just ripping the bandaid off again I got upset at his blatant lack of professionalism. He had the nerve to say "this is not sober behavior" and walked out. I am a lifelong cardiac patient. My life depends on me staying sober. How dare he accuse me of not being sober. They have my medical records! They can see I'm clean and have been for years! 5 freaking years! Yes I am upset. I didnt even get to spend Christmas with my child. He is the most unprofessional dr I have ever met. Completely violated my rights as a patient by even discussing anything from my medical records in front of visitors that were here to see me. I have already spoken with my father and and filing complaints and seeking legal representation. A medical professional has no right to speak to people the way he did especially one who has continuously refused pain medication for open heart surgery performed just days before. A blood clotting disorder and drug addiction are two very different things yet he treated me like I was a worthless junkie off of the streets. I came here for a second opinion! Not to be belittled and humiliated for my past. He is a terrible person

Dr. Hollifield is the best man ive ever met. He has been my doctor for 2 years now ever since the day my daughter was born. He is not only helping me with addiction therapy but he listens to all my personal issues. He knows things about me that no one else does, i look forward to every month i get to see/talk to him. He is a caring, honest, and non judgmental. I honestly look at him as a very special person in my life that helps me & listens to me. I dont know what id do without him as my doctor, i feel so lucky to call him my doctor.

Very good doctor. A real loss when he stopped seeing.just pain patients. He will see addiction and psych patients, though.

Dr. Hollifield has calm and gentle mannerisms. However, he is to the point and does not accept dishonesty. Dr. Hollifield helped me to be realize I was predominantly hurting myself with my dishonesty about my addiction. I am truly grateful to have him working with me as my addiction specialist physician.

Dr. Hollifield, did not have any sympathy and treated me like a addict because of my chronic pain. The time Dr. Hollifield treated me he did not listen to my input about my current level of pain and how his treatment was not working. His goal was to get me off of all pain medication no matter what my pain level was. He has bad communication, no empathy, was rude, and very unprofessional. I would not recommend this M.D. to anyone. I am a RN and work with many different M.D.'s in different fields and never met a M.D. as poor as him.
