Dr. William Benjamin Kibler, MD

Had SD surgery in 2019 and absolutely butchered me. Took off non detached romboids and ner reattached them correctly. He has ruined so many people I don't know how he had a medical license. My repair failed and he retired and the doctor that took over refused to continue to do the surgery or help any of his prior patients . I was told to pound sand. Fortunately found a Dr that was able to repair it but I still suffer from issues caused by Kibler. Now Lexington is back doing the surgery. Run away as fast as you can.

One year later the repair came off and he retired and Lexington Clinic told me they no longer do the surgery or see prior patients and to go find a dr on my own. Fortunately another dr was able to fix my romboids but I struggle with other issues because of this surgery. Thank goodness he is retired and no longer butchers patients

After seeing Dr. Kibler he recommended Scapular Reattachment Surgery. However, the good doctor saw it fit not to review any imaging, EMG's, or other notes from providers in my home town. He states we could 'TRY SD surgery to see if it worked'. I have been in healthcare 13 years and have never heard a surgeon use the word try. I clearly declined this option. I have heard (from patients) horror stories about needing reattachment procedures from other surgeons, misdiagnosed nerve injuries, and labral/GH tears that he chose not to view or get images of. This is HIS surgery, he invented it, and republishes the same case study repeatedly, and it has very little peer review. Do yourself a favor, go see Jon Warner in Boston, Matt Provencher in CO, or Answorth Allen in NY. Get multiple opinions before him or his partners perform this surgery on you. I know you are in pain but it beats being scarred for life.

This ‘MD’ wanted to perform SD surgery on me without looking at images/EMG’s, Etc. He states we could ‘TRY’ SD surgery. I have worked in medicine 13 years and have never heard a surgeon use TRY and surgery, especially a such complex surgery. After speaking with multiple patients, most of whom had nerve injuries, it seems the good doctor decides to correct problems that are not really present. Do yourself a favor, if you have a complicated shoulder issue, go see Jon Warner in Boston, Matt Provencher in CO, or Answorth Allen in NY, or any orthopedic at Hospital for Special Surgery as they are consistently number 1 in orthopedics.

May 2018 I had scapular muscle detachment surgery with Dr. Kibler. It went horribly wrong in more ways than I can explain in this review. My left shoulder separated immediately after surgery and still is separated 2 years later despite a second shoulder tightening surgery by Dr. Kibler which failed and made things worse. I was misdiagnosed by Dr. Kibler and given 2 unnecessary surgeries which have resulted in disfigurement and widespread severe pain. I have been lied to by him and his staff on several occasions. Treated unwell and dismissed when I was in severe abnormal pain after his operations and begging for help. I was told everything was normal when the head of my arm bone was protruding forward and down of the shoulder socket. It still is at this moment. I have now developed problems I never had before scapular detachment surgery, including severe neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, rib and hip problems. I have seen several specialists after Dr. Kibler and all of them are mortified… at the damage caused by this unneeded surgery. I trusted him with my life and I was left maimed and in agony. I had to quit college and my job, my social life is nothing because I am in serious pain all the time. I cannot drive. I had bi lateral peri scapular pain before I went to see him and now I am left with a whole bunch of new problems I never had in my life since his surgeries. I would not recommend him, the Lexington Clinic nor anyone who supports Dr. Kibler as a Doctor. I am now disabled because of this, I have to learn a new way of living because of his mistakes. Dr. Kibler did not give me a shoulder MRI before scapular detachment surgery. If I was given a MRI before surgery it would have shown I had a congenital condition called Buford complex and bi lateral labrum tears that needed to be fixed. This was all found out after the harm was caused with my scapular muscles. His professional judgement has caused me to lose my quality of life, I never needed any of the surgeries he gave me and now I must deal with the severe consequences of having surgery with Dr. Kibler and the Lexington Clinic. I would seek a second or even third opinion if seen by Dr. Kibler or any of his colleagues in my honest opinion. When I researched Dr. Kibler years ago, I found nothing but positive reviews. If I knew what I know about him now, I would not have contacted him. Even if i saw only one bad review i would have rethought my choices. If I knew beforehand the true story and horrifying facts about scapular muscle detachment surgery I 100% would not have gotten it. I was told by Dr. Kibler this was a rather simple surgery, I would do very well with it and I had true detachment. That this would significantly help reduce my pain and help my mobility. He couldn’t have been more wrong and now I get to suffer for the rest of my life for it. Wish I would have never heard of Scapular Detachment Surgery or Dr. William Ben Kibler. I am in a facebook group where there are many other women and some men who are also in the same position as me, suffering from Dr. Kibler’s misdiagnosis and unnecessary invented surgery/surgeries. I was very relieved to hear of his retirement. No one should suffer and be treated the way I and many others have been treated. Please do not take this review lightly if you are considering making an appointment with him or the Lexington Clinic. I wish I was warned before I made an appointment and traveled halfway across the country several times to be treated by Dr. Kibler, just to end up maimed for the rest of my life.

After my SD surgery, the muscle detached. I went back numerous visits, only to be told muscle was just weak. After much suffering & then opened up by another surgeon, I was found fully detached!

The lack of neurological testing, performing surgery without an MRI and being the “only one” who does it should be a red flag to anyone referred to him or thinking of making an appointment. The surgery he does simply rearranged your scapula anatomy, and for most patients causes severe consequences down the road. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone.

My daughter was referred to Dr. Kibler after many doctor's here in Ohio could not help her. One of the orthopedic surgeons she saw even said he'd never even witnessed the surgery that she'd need done, let alone be able to perform it himself. He is the one who referred us to Dr. Kibler. Dr. Kibler was able to correctly diagnose my daughter, perform the surgery, and gave her a physical therapy plan that was tailored to her situation. This was truly the best thing that could've happened to us, and he was able to take away her 2+ years of chronic pain. I would refer him to anyone!

This surgery ruined my life. I wish I had seen the previous reviews.
