Dr. William Vaughn Mccall, MD

Dr McCall attended to me personally in an extremely tricky situation, gave me almost instantaneous updates on my condition as results became available, and included my wife in the process to keep everyone on the same page. His expertise carried me through a time that I was afraid to see come, and has set me on an even path.

While working through professional school, Dr. McCall was more than open to guide me through the many different options of medicine that would help alleviate my complaints. This kind of help requires trial and error of many different medications and dosages, and he assured me at each appointment that things do not look bleak, and that there are still alot of options to try. Through this long process of trial and error, Dr. McCall has been available thought the entire week if any concerns came up to me, and was flexible in scheduling to accommodate my school schedule. I really appreciate the work and availability he has given me to help me work toward a better quality of life.

Dr. McCall has been my Psychiatrist for a number of years. I first met him while participating in a research project for subjects who suffer with PTSD, suicidal ideations and sleep disturbances. He is brilliant! His extensive knowledge of Psychiatric disorders and medications is very broad. He has written many research papers and lead many research projects. He is the Chairman of Psychiatry and the Vice Dean for MCG. Aside from his accolades, he is a personable and compassionate Physician. While I am responsible for my own thoughts and actions, I still credit Dr. McCall for helping me to walk through my Complex Psychiatric issues so I can see how valuable life really is. I will be relocating in a number of months and will no longer be able to be his patient. I can only hope that I will be able to find a Doctor as fantastic as he is again.

After coming in to the psychiatry ward after a suicide attempt, Doctor McCall informed me that I was an alcoholic as well as that the nerve damage I inflicted to my hand would be beyond repair and I would have frozen claw hand for the rest of my life. Since I had known him for less than 12 hours, I was highly offended. Not only is my hand at at least 80% functioning again thanks to my surgeon and physical therapist, I am a high functioning adult who just graduated from one of the most prestigious arts schools in the nation. I accomplished all of this with just 10mg of anti-depressants a day. I would not recommend this doctor or Wake Forest Baptist Hospital psychiatry department to any one I know.
