Dr. William Henry Morrison, MD

This physician did not inform me of all available treatment options and excluded me from participating in decisions regarding my own medical care. As a result, I was unable to provide truly informed consent for my treatment. My cancer recurred shortly after I completed my initial treatment. It was only after this recurrence that I learned more aggressive radiation approaches were available for my diagnosis. Had these options been discussed with me, I would have chosen the most aggressive treatment available, given the well-documented high recurrence rate associated with my rare cancer. I traveled to Houston, spent weeks away from my children, and incurred thousands of dollars in travel and lodging expenses because I believed I would receive the highest standard of specialized cancer care. I did not make those sacrifices to receive a more conservative treatment approach without being informed that other options existed. I was also deeply concerned that this physician was unfamiliar… with the current medical literature and treatment protocols for my diagnosis. In fact, he was the only physician involved in my care who did not know the radiation recommendations for my tumor grade and stage. His failure to communicate all appropriate treatment options and his unilateral treatment decisions deprived me of the opportunity to make an informed choice about my own care. I believe this failure contributed to my cancer recurrence and has resulted in additional treatment, emotional distress, financial hardship, and ongoing uncertainty about my prognosis.

Dr. Morrison kicked the butt of the stage IV cancer to took up residence in my nasopharynx! I am 2.5 years post treatment and NED! At first Dr. Morrison is very quiet, but he has a great sense of humor once you get to know him. I wish I could post the video of him and I after my first PET post treatment. He danced along to the song "Happy" by Pharrel and let me videotape it! He's awesome and goes the extra mile or miles in some cases (mine was "a complicated case") to get the radiation plan right! His hand was even preserved in my radiation mask, because he wanted to make sure the angle of my neck was right. I call him Dr. Morrison THE Great!!!

From the first day we met him, we never doubted this was the doctor who could help my husband. Our faith in his knowledge and expertise is still well placed eleven years later. We will eternally be grateful that Dr. Morrison is OUR doctor at MDA.
