I was one of five children born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. I graduated from Creighton Prep Jesuit High School in 1977 and from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 1983. Throughout my school years, I worked various odd jobs including lawn maintenance, snow removal and painting. I also worked for Skinner Macaroni in the pasta factory (I already knew a lot about macaroni before I moved to Waterbury and married an Italian girl!) In college, I was a short-order cook at Denny’s! Growing up in Nebraska was great. My childhood was a generous mix of city, small town, and trips into the rural areas to visit my relatives who lived on farms, where I enjoyed hunting and fishing. I rode my bicycle everywhere I went, and my hobbies included slotcars, model building, baseball, basketball, and football. I stared racing Motocross as a teenager, and it evolved into my current race car hobby. Mostly, I loved to build things and take things apart. I continued my education as a …dental student at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Dental school involved being proficient at both academics and mechanics. It was the most challenging four years of my life.
Lots of people ask me how I ended up in Waterbury after growing up in Omaha. I decided to see the East Coast and continue my schooling ina hospital setting. I began my residency at Waterbury Hospital in 1987. I did general dentistry in Chase Clinic and was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in the operating room with both dental and medical surgeons. I consider the year I spent there to be the most valuable year of my schooling. Not to mention, I formed many professional relationships that continue today.
