Dr. William Ryan, DDS
Dr. Ryan was born on the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago where his father served as a naval Officer. He grew up in Chicago and moved to Texas in 1985.
Dr. Ryan went to Fenwick High School where he was an All-American Swimmer and swam on a team that won a national championship. He attended Northwestern University on a swimming scholarship where he received a varsity letter all 4 years of attendance and was inducted into the N-Man’s Club as a lifetime member. The N-Man’s Club is Northwestern’s honorary organization for exemplary athletes who graduate in good standing. Dr. Ryan was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and volunteered for many community service activities through his fraternity.
Dr. Ryan then attended the University of Illinois Dental School graduating near the top of his class. He was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. One has to be selected out of the top 10% of their Dental Class to be eligible. Dr. …Ryan won the Wood Dental Scholarship awarded to only one student per class based on class rank and achievements. He also won the Block Drug Company Senior Dental Student Essay in a national competition. Dr. Ryan published 3 peer reviewed articles in international journals as a dental student.
He then moved to the Dallas Fort Worth area to attend the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical School for a post Graduate Residency in Surgery and Anesthesia. After this training Dr. Ryan became Board Certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesia and the National Dental Board of Anesthesia. Dr. Ryan is one of the few dentists in the country who is a Board Certified Dentist Anesthesiologist. This is not technically a specialty, but is a recognized post graduate program by the American Dental Association.
Dr. Ryan has continued his professional writing and has published over 20 articles in international journals, most of which are peer reviewed. He is one of the few dentists in the country to have the full spectrum of anesthesia permits and thus can provide more levels of comfort for dental treatment. Ryan Family Dentistry provides the full range of dental treatments to all age groups with the emphasis on quality and patient comfort. Dr. Ryan is asked to lecture on patient comfort and anesthesia and has been chosen for the America’s Top Dentists award for the past several years.
Dr. Ryan and his wife, Donna, had 3 wonderful children: David, Katie, and Kelly. Donna, after a long and courageous battle with cancer moved on to a better place on June 1, 2005. Dr. Ryan finished raising the children on his own. David is now in the working world and Katie and Kelly are attending college.
Dr. Ryan still tries to swim every day. He is certified as a Master Scuba Diver by PADI. He enjoys skiing black diamond runs and going off the slopes into the woods. Dr. Ryan enjoys biking, boating, water skiing, yoga, and many other sports and activities.
Dr. Ryan is a member of the American Dental Association, American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Texas Dental Association, and Dallas County Dental Society.
