Dr. William Samuel Sawchuk, MD

Dr. Sawchuk is always friendly, up beat, takes the time to really connect with his patients, and is incredibly knowledgeable. He has saved our family from skin cancer and has the additional background of having been a pharmacist, so he knows his medications cold. Our whole family loves him!

Because of an acute case of shingles, I will give Dr. Sawchuk's office credit for fitting me in. However, I had gone to the Fair Oaks Emergency Room and received 9, 20 mg prednisone tablets, 5 300mg Vicoden tablets and 30, 1000mg valacyclovir tablets. Dr. Sawchuk agreed I had an acute case of shingles and prescribed me 36, 5mg each more prednisone tablets with a calendar to demonstrate a predinisone schedule. He told me he believed himself to be one of the few doctors in the area that had deeply researched shingles and was very confident of his knowledge in treating shingles than most doctors. He told me he would not refill my Vicodin but would research the neurologists he knew that were educated in both the dermatological and neurological aspects of shingles and he would recommend a dr. to recommend to me a non-opiod medication for pain management, because he was going on vacation. When I came home, I realized that I was missing 3 prednisones so the calendar he issued could… not be followed exactly as he wanted. I had never had shingles before, so it could have been that I took too many prednisones when I came back from Fair Oaks Emergency room, or maybe the drug store I went to did not give me the full prescription At any rate I was in too much pain to try to hunt down 3 missing prednisone pills and called Dr. Sawchuk's office back and asked if they would provide 3 more prednisone pills to the prescription he just wrote and that it could be called in to the same local drug store. His office assistant, Maureen, was so extremely unwilling to understand the situation and kept telling me that I either needed to go back to the drug store or the emergency room and see if they didn't give me the full 36 prednisone pills. I was in pain, had difficulty driving and walking and I thought it would have been easier if Dr. Sawchuk just added 3 to his original prescription, since I had not even filled it yet! All he would have had to do is just call in 39 prednisone pills instead of 36 to a drugstore down the street and I would have been able to follow his prednisone schedule. Maureen was so emotional and became so unmanageable she actually hung up on me and when I called back she didn't answer and I got a nice man on the line that promised me it would be taken care of. I never received a call back from Dr. Sawchuk's office. I never received the predisone I needed nor did I receive a recommendation of a neurologist to prescribe non-opiod pain management. Fortunately I had another recommendation for a dermatologist and not only was I given more prednisone, 5mg, than Dr. Sawchuk gave me, with a calendar to demonstrate the daily doses, I was also given more Vicodin after searching a database for my opiod usage. My shingles was so acute the Dr. did not think it possible that I would be comfortable at all with the few Vicodin I was given. My new doctor realized I would also need more valacyclovir tablets (1000mg) and added 1 more valacyclovir tablet to each day of my daily dosage. This is an example of a horribly dysfunctional office that caused me extreme pain that took a horrible toll on me as well as wasted my time and my money. I will never go back to see Dr. Sawchuk. He has a horrible bedside manner and is uncomprehendingly arrogant, yet totally incompetent! His assistant Maureen should not be dealing with people at all, she is out of control.

I had a painful rash and saw 5 (five) dermatologists before I saw Dr. Sawchuck. He listened to me & methodically eliminated different causes until he found that I had a fragrance allergy. Since then, I have been rash-free!!!

I have been seeing Dr. Sawchuk for 25 years. I see by the reviews, he has a number of us loyal followers. The reason is simple. He is the best. Yes, as his practice has grown it can be difficult to get in to see him, but, I wouldn't go to anyone else. Over 25 years ago I had a horrible sunburn on my face that could have done massive damage. I went to him on an emergency basis at the recommendation of my Primary doc. I am so glad I did. It's been 25 years and not only is there no scarring, but as a result of my going to him and protecting my skin for all these years, I am regularly mistaken for being 10 years younger. I have gone through many life changes such as hormonal issues, severe acne, growth removals, etc., that could have potentially caused permanent scars, but I see the best Dr. around ...Dr. Sawchuk. Yes, I have had wait times occasionally. But, it's usually due to some "emergency" like my own 25 years ago and I am ok with that. This is my skin......my face… .......what the world sees most and I would rather go to the best and protect it to the best of my ability than to get in and out in 10 minutes. Some things are more important than a few extra minutes of waiting.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sawchuk for 24 years. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful he is. He treats your entire body and well being, not just skin issues. His assistant Jay is the best. I recently moved out of state and am heartbroken about losing this wonderful man. I was so lucky to have been in his care for 20 plus years. He is one in a million!

Efficient doctor and pleasant. Noted for delays, difficulty in scheduling, and rude staff. Other doctors note that getting to see him can take up to six months and be prepared for nasty staff.

Worth the wait. Great Doctor!

Dr. Sawchuk cured my skin malady, an unusual one, with an excellent treatment protocol. I could not be more complimentary toward him. His staff is not efficient or responsive, so you have to be patient.

Doctor and office staff were rude bordering on arrogant. I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes to see this doctor who was not interested in what I had to say at all--would NEVER recommend him--plenty of good Dermatologists out there without the wait time and terrible attitude.

I have been going to Dr. Sawchuck for the past 17 years, at least. Even though his office is no longer close to my house, my husband and my children and I still go. The wait time used to be longer but the last few times I went, the wait was about five minutes. I am not sure what these reviewers are talking about. At the old office, the wait was indeed long; but even there it was never hours long! He's very popular and, therefore, busy, but that's because he is so knowledgeable. He knows what's wrong even before looking at the sample under the microscope. I manage to get an appointment for all emergencies very quickly, even now that his old scheduler is gone. If it's not an emergency, it might take some time to get in to see him. But he is so worth it!
