William F. Terhune, DMD
I feel I have been blessed to be an orthodontist and go to work every day to do something I love. The essence of my practice philosophy is to care about the whole person and not just to treat their smile. I always want to deliver the best possible care tailored to the unique needs of each patient. It is exciting and rewarding to see the transformations our patients go through and how much a person’s smile has to do with their self-esteem.
The community we serve is full of interesting, diverse people from a variety of traditions and backgrounds, and the relationships I have created with my patients and their families have opened my eyes and made me a better person. My team and I look forward to making each patient a member of our practice family.
Education and Continuing Education
Bachelor of Science, Zoology – Miami University, Oxford, OH
Doctor of Dental Medicine – University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine
Certificate in Orthodontics – …University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery
The field of orthodontics is constantly changing, and it has always been my goal to provide the most evidence-based, effective care to my patients. I regularly participate in continuing education courses in orthodontics, as well as in general dentistry, allowing me to deliver contemporary care and advise patients about options for various restorative and cosmetic procedures after their orthodontic treatment is complete. Laser dentistry, when used in conjunction with orthodontics, can speed up treatment and improve aesthetic results, and the certification I’ve received with this technology has improved my patients’ smiles dramatically.

About the Office
Before opening up my private practice in San Antonio 16 years ago, I practiced as a general dentist for eight years and as an orthodontist in the US Army for 14 years. My team and I have created a relaxed, casual atmosphere where we try to have fun with our patients and each other all day. Patients, some even second generation families, can count on seeing familiar faces when they come in for appointments. We consider each person in our practice to be our friend.
In the Community
My attitude has always been to “pay it forwardâ€. I know I can’t change the whole world, but I feel I can influence those around me to make it better one step at a time. My office donates treatment to patients in need who otherwise would not be able to receive care and participates in World Vision every year to improve lives outside of our immediate sphere of influence. Last Christmas we were so excited to donate funds for clean water source development in third world countries. My wife and I also sponsor several families in El Salvador through a local church mission organization.
Family Life
I am originally from East Meadow, NY, a suburb of New York City, and have lived in San Antonio ever since I retired from the military. My wife, Anne, and I have a son, Bill, who is married to Vava, and a daughter, Michelle, who is married to Adam. We’ve also been blessed with five amazing grandchildren, Bryant, Bryce, Sarah, Matthew, and Liam. Our Silky terrier, Val, is the one who really rules the house. While spending time with my family is the best hobby, I do enjoy snow skiing, traveling, learning how to play golf, and restoring my 1977 MGB Roadster.
