Dr. William Richard Timmerman, MD

I feel that Dr Timmermann saved my life. I was having bladder discomfort and leakage so saw a urologist. I also told this doctor that my abdomen was distended and felt hard. He dismissed my concerns and prescrbed a medication for overactive bladder, dismissed my concerns, said I probably had a blockage and to take a laxative. I didn’t trust that diagnosis and I decided to see Dr Timmermann a week later because I was feeling worse. He felt a mass in my abdomen, ordered a CT scan which revealed a very enlarged, cancerous ovary. He referred me to a top specialist and even assisted in the surgery. Thanks to Dr Timmermann, my cancer was still in a very early stage and I have a chance to live a normal, long life.

He's a very busy because he's an excellent physician, making it worth the wait. Appointments are frequently cancelled due to surgery schedule but because his reputation precedes him his patient load is high. He has a great bedside manner and makes you feel very comfortable with his expertise. His office staff is not the most efficient so you have to be persistent with requests and follow up calls.

So happy I had Dr. Timmerman do my surgery. He knows what he is doing and is kind. He spent plenty of time with me. Being the nerd that I am I went in with a list of questions. He had answered most of them before I ever got a chance to ask and had me go down what was left on my list and answered them all.

Dr. Timmerman has the best bedside manner of any doctor I have ever had. He has a bright, upbeat attitude and a wonderful patience in explaining any procedure.

I developed the disease, I Ulcerative Colitis in the year 2000. I had a big bleeding and infected ulcer about the size of a golf ball in my large intestine that would not go away . It was located just above my rectum. This is a horrible disease. I had never heard of it before. I managed to put it in remission two times before the third time it came back and it would not heal. I suspect this is because they treat Ulcertive Colitis with Prednizone. After taking prednisone for several months my body would not heal because Prednizone shuts down your immune system. None of the medicines were effective at removing the ulcer and I had lost 40 pounds within a couple of months and I was in intense pain throughout the day having to go to the bathroom 10 to 12 times a day . My stools were bloody with puss and I developed dumping syndrome which is the urge to have bowel movements when you really don't have to go. I was referred to Dr. William Timmerman by the in house gastroenterologist at… Regional Memorial Hospital. I met with Dr Timmermanand right away I knew that he was very knowledgable about this disease ,ulcerative colitis , and I later found out that he was a top doctor in the line of defense against irritable bowel disease. He was the best doctor that I have ever met in my life. I couldn't work because of this disease and I was broke and unemployed. He took my case on knowing that I had no money to pay him and he told me, " don't worry about it, let's just get you well ." He immediately admitted me into the hospital and began a barrage of tests to make sure that I actually had ulcerative colitis and not Crohn's disease or some other irritable bowel disease. It took a couple of days of testing and biopsies but it came back positive that I definitely did have ulcerative colitis. He braced me for the bad news that I would have to have my large intestine removed and have a J Pouch constructed out of the end of my small intestine. A J Pouch is a make shift resevoir that acts as a colon. He was great through and through and he assured me that I would be well and not have to suffer anymore with this disease after the surgery. It was a hard pill to swallow because I really didn't want to have a large car running up my belly. The procedure consisted of a two-part surgery and he was there for me the whole time make sure that I was absolutely 100% on track. He was so good at explaining exactly what had to be done and he also made my parents feel at ease too , because this was a major surgery . Everyone that I came in contact with that was involved with my surgery assured me over and over how lucky I was to have such a good doctor as Dr. William Timmerman. They were right he is the most professional talented surgeon I have ever come in contact with. I am so grateful to him because he actually saved my life. Dr. Timmerman told me before my wife's surgery that we were family, he would treat my wife like it was his wife. Well to be honest, he would be charged with spousal abuse if he treated his wife like he has treated mine since he cut & gutted her. I carried her in my arms to the emergency room at Bon secours 7 days after surgery with complications. And after waiting 9 hours at the ER, NO call or follow up from Timmerman. He might be a talented surgeon, but he's a heartless so and so when there are complications.

Dr. Timmerman was outstanding! His bedside manner is noteworthy and his skills as a surgeon are second to none. I had a very severe case of diverticulitis which required surgery. After an exhaustive search for a highly respected, competent surgeon, my wife and I decided on Dr. Timmerman. From my initial appointment to my surgery to the follow-up appointments, he and his staff were outstanding. His skill in the OR proved itself when I was back on my feet and playing golf in no time! I read about many horror stories and experienced absolutely none of the one's I came across while performing my research. I would definitely recommend Dr. Timmerman if you ever find yourself in need of the types of services he performs.

My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer and Dr. Timmerman was her doctor. He is truly an excellent physician with the best bed-side mannersI have ever seen. My mother just loved they way he cared for his patients and I simply just loved him! He is the best!

This is not an easy specialty for patients or doctors to deal with. Dr. Timmerman is always warm, always professional and always honest. He makes the conversation matter of fact and comfortable. As a patient I always feel he cares about me. Further, he is the doctor others call on to fix other surgical mistakes. AND he will never recommend surgery unless it is needed, giving patients intelligent choices to make.
