Dr. William Elvin Guy Whitley

Dr. Bill was raised in East Dallas and graduated from Skyline High School. In 1989, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. In 1996, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Texas A&M’s Baylor College of Dentistry. Since graduation from dental school, Dr. Bill practiced general and cosmetic dentistry in Mesquite. In 2009, he relocated his state-of-the-art dental practice to Casa Linda Plaza in East Dallas near White Rock Lake.Dr. Bill’s dental practice incorporates the basic principles of oral health care with recent technological advances. Dr. Bill is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the Dallas County Dental Society. He continues to seek opportunities to expand his knowledge of new dental techniques through continuing education classes.WebMD SpotlightWebMD Spoke with Dr. Whitley about a few relevant health topics.What is the experience like for patients that visit your …office? According to a patient just this morning, our dental office is fun, warm and inviting. He is so glad he made the switch to our office. We take great pride in making patients feel comfortable throughout their entire visit.Can you describe how your team interacts with patients?We take great interest in the interests of our patients and interact in person, email, website, phone, and Social Media (Facebook & Instagram). If our patients mention major life events like weddings, graduations, births, etc., we make note of it so we can follow-up on the event.Do you have any stories where a patient had an exceptional experience with you or your team?We have 2 stories which we are extremely proud of because Whitley Family Dental saves lives.Story #1 - We saved the life of a pregnant mother and her unborn child. The mother came in for her routine cleaning around the 4 month of her pregnancy. We take blood pressure on every single patient, every single visit. We took the mother's blood pressure and it was dangerously high. We took the BP several times and it didn't budge. Dr. Bill told the mother she needed to go to her ob/gyn immediately. Thankfully, her doctor was across the street. They immediately hospitalized the mother and she delivered her baby 4 days later. The baby spent many months in the NICU, but she is thriving and doing great.Story #2 - Our hygienist's perform Oral Cancer screening (EOIO - External Oral/Intra Oral at every cleaning appointment. One of our hygienist's performed this Detect, Prevent, Identify, and Provide assessment and found that the patient had a large swollen lymph-node in her neck. The hygienist directed the patient to see her physician if the swelling did not subside. The patient went to see her physician and it turned out to be Stage 1 cancer. Another life was saved because we performed preventative measures.What drew you to your current specialty? We are not a specialty - we are a general dental practice that sees patients as young as 1 month up to 103 years old.Anything interesting about yourself that you’d like to share with your prospective patients? Dr. Bill is an extremely conservative dentist. Dr. Bill's practice philosophy is "Dentistry that can last a Lifetime". He will always try the most conservative treatment first before progressing to more extensive treatment.If you had to select a quote to represent yourself as a physician / provider to your patients, what would it be?  It can be your own personal quote or a quote that you resonate with. Dr. Bill went into dentistry to help people and provide them with "Dentistry that can last a Lifetime" - which happens to be our practice philosophy.
