Dr. Willie C Mcclairen, MD

Dr. Mcclairen is one of the best surgeons I know. For the last seven years of my life, I have struggled to figure out what was causing abscess after abscess in my stomach, after I had a procedure to get a tubal ligation. I had multiple hospital stays and IV antibiotics . Everywhere I turned told me they wasn’t for sure, There was no answer. I needed to lose weight because for them to proceed it would be very dangerous.They didn’t even know what they were doing or what they were looking at . They wanted my BMI to be lower. I seen multiple surgeons over the years and it was the same thing. One day I was driving down university Avenue and I noticed a little brick building and it looked so familiar to me. I just couldn’t understand why, that’s when it hit me that is the Surgeon who did my gallbladder surgery in 2015. He was the one that had 100% I needed him. I was confused not knowing if this is something he could do but it was worth a shot I did visit him in clinic and he told me… weight was not a problem for him it can make things difficult, but he was not concerned We need to fix the problem, but I was so shook up about the weight. I told him just give it some time to see if I could lose a few pounds . Finally, I had a really bad abscessed or whatever they would call it and I was bleeding from my belly button. I had to go to the hospital and be admitted, I looked at that ER doctor in the face and I told him there’s only one person I want to operate on me to figure out what this is and that is that Dr Mcclairen he said I’m not sure if we can make that happen . Tears filled my eyes as I was completely scared. Five minutes later Mcclairen walked through my ER room door I was relieved. He said hey what’s going on? Are you ready to take care of this at that moment? I knew it would be better from here. No questions asked he was ready. I had to do it even though I had been scared for years even the thought of going back into surgery after this, gave me the chills and made me sick to my stomach, but that day I was so confident when I seen his face. I stayed in the hospital. I completed my IV antibiotics. I went home within a week. He had me scheduled for surgery. He did my surgery found things that needed to be removed and repaired my hernia and I am on week one of recovery I seen him today and everything looked great. I will continue to recover. I had tears in my eyes today after walking out just knowing that I have someone I who truly cared and who really went above and beyond to make sure I’m still alive and I made it through surgery OK and did everything possible to fix the issue with no questions asked . he is an amazing surgeon. He is very smart. He is humble explains everything to you makes you feel like you’re someone and not just the next patient. He is truly and honestly a gift from God thank you so much …

Dr. McClairen , head of trauma at Mercy One, took care of my husband after a bad fall. It was so good to see him again after working with him at another hospital several years ago. Such a caring and talented surgeon. I highly recommend him if you need a general surgeon, or find yourself a trauma casualty at Mercy One, DSM, Ia.

He explained my procedure and patiently answered all of my questions and those of my concerned family. He reassured me during my hospital stay and kept me informed about the next steps in my recovery. My follow up visit and post surgery instructions were clear and reassuring. If you are looking for the best surgeon around Dr. McClairen is the surgeon I would highly recommend. He is the most professional & caring surgeon I have ever met. He is very compassionate about his work and it shows with his very humble personality. If my family ever needs another surgery I will be contacting Dr. McClairen. He is a very busy man but always has time for questions or concerns you may have. Thank you Dr. McClairen for all that you did for my daughter. You truly are a gift from God to so many of us.

I needed emergency surgery for my gulbladder and Dr McClairen worked me in right away and kept me informed at all times of what to expect and always made sure to ask if I had any questions or concerns. I am most impressed with Doctor McClairen and would recommend him to anyone. The office staff is also a plus , very friendly and knowledgeable.
