Dr. Winnie Swee-Eng Teh, MD

I am originally from Malaysia. I completed my medical education at University of Malaya which is the premier university in Malaysia. My rotating internship/residency was in medicine, surgery and pediatric surgery. Following that, I spent a year doing anesthesiology. I came to the United States in 1988 and pursued and obtained my MBA. My residency in Internal Medicine was with New York Downtown Hospital which is affiliated with Cornell University. I was Chief Resident in my final year of residency. My fellowship in Infectious Disease was with St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital which had affiliations with Columbia-Presbyterian.

After my residency, I went to Texas and worked in a Health Professional Shortage Area serving an inner city population. I was the medical director of the clinic and saw children and adults with varied medical and surgical problems. I then joined a multispecialty group and practiced both internal medicine and infectious diseases and held a medical directorship at …HealthSouth Rehab Hospital. I later moved to Oshkosh, WI and joined Affinity Medical Group. During my time there, I started up the wound care program for Mercy Medical Center, and remained the Medical Director until my departure. I joined MIMA in 2005.

I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. My other certifications include BLS(Basic Life Support), ACLS(Advanced Cardiac Life Support),BDLS and ADLS(Basic and Advanced Disaster Life Support). I also have additional training in wound care and debridement and Hyperbaric Oxygen. I am published in the Clinical Infectious Disease journal and have spoken on multiple topics including Bioterrorism, Clostridium Difficile and MRSA. I have served on multiple infection control and pharmacy committees for hospitals.

My special interests include wounds and wound infections, diabetic feet, fungal infections, bone and joint infections, orthopedic and implant infections. I believe in the importance of patient education and the empowerment of patients to make medical decisions. I am conversant in Cantonese, Mandarin and Malay/Indonesian and enjoy taking care of patients with multicultural background.

My hobbies are reading, music, guitar, taichi, and spending time with family and friends.
