Dr. Yair Josh Blumenfeld, MD

We have known Dr Blumenfeld for more than 2 years now. We first met him at LPCH in 2012, where we had been admitted due to complications (extreme IUGR @ 24 weeks). While that pregnancy was not destined to have a positive outcome, we were moved by how extremely nice, kind, courteous and caring he was to us during our most difficult time. We were so impressed with him that we wanted him - and were lucky to have him - as our Perinatologist/OBGYN this time around. Frankly, we have nothing but good things to say about Dr Blumenfeld. During our entire pregnancy, he was always on top of things. He ordered all our lab tests & ultrasounds and monitored us meticulously even when he was out-of-town for 2 weeks to attend a conference. He answered all our queries all the time. And he allayed all our fears and gave us a lot of confidence throughout the pregnancy. We were nervous wrecks and extremely anxious this time around (due to our history), but not once did he seem irritated to repeat some… piece of advice or to answer the same query again, when we sought clarifications. He even went out of his way and addressed our concerns during non-office hrs, via phone calls and sms-es. All-in-all, he was more of a friend in a white coat than a Doctor to us! Dr Blumenfeld happened to be the oncall doctor the night before our delivery. Just his mere presence @ LPCH lifted our spirits and made us feel extremely positive. I am happy to say, a few hrs later, we had our cute lil princess!! And he came to see us all (esp the baby!) after the delivery, despite not being on duty. Thats how committed he is to his work and his patients. Always there for them, all the time. And with a smile. We just had our post-pregnancy 6-week appointment. And, as we said our goodbyes to Dr Blumenfeld, we couldn't hep but wonder how nice it would have been if he were a pediatrician/PCP/regular GYN as well! Alas, not all wishes come trueâ?¦

His prediction about the pregnancy due date was completely wrong. When I told him my estimated due date based on my last menstruation period, he just completely ignored it, and he even showed the expression that he did not care. He just predicted a due date using the ultra sound scan, and it was 2 weeks off from my estimated due date. When I politely talk to him to make sure that there was no misreading in the ultra sound, he was really mad, and told me that I had no right to say anything since he was a doctor and the doctor was always right. He did not even want to answer a single question from a patient. I never expected to hear from a doctor like him saying "I am not a God, and I cannot do everything" when I asked him about the state disability. I really did not understand why he had to say these cruel words to a patient when he could have say something nice even if he did not want to answer a question. The worst thing was that when my baby was actually born, the doctors at the… hospital agreed and took note in the hospital record that my baby was not a premature like his incorrect prediction. The doctors at the hospital took my estimated date as a actual gestation period for my baby. Being an affiliate with a famous hospital like Stanford hospital, his ultra sound reading costs were also pretty high compared to others. I really did not mind the costs if the ultra sound readings were accurate, but this doctor was completely failure as a doctor: incompetence in his job, no understanding whatever about patients concern or feeling, arrogant and ignorant person that should not even have been a doctor in the first place. I would strongly suggest to stay away from this guy(I used guy since he does not even deserve the title Doctor).
