I was referred to Dr. Aklilu by my PCP after receiving test results that I had Lyme Disease, therefore I needed to be treated. During my first visit this Dr. said he "wasn't convinced" that I had Lyme bc it is too rare. (If you actually research it, it's not rare at all, it's even in the rise right now). I also explained to him that I am experiencing all the symptoms and I recently moved to FL from VA, also in the past year I have traveled to many other states (particularly up north) and out of the country. So it seemed very reasonable that, I got infected. Btw, if you do get infected, you have to receive treatment within the first 30 days or treatment will likely fail and you will develop chronic Lyme disease. So after he explained he wasn't convinced and said my test just means "I've been exposed" he decided he wanted to run the same blood tests again, but through his doctor office. Which both test came from quest diagnostics, meaning now I had two $125.00 (of the same tests) of lab… bills to pay for. I scheduled a date to come back and get blood work done, a couple days later. I waited for testing to come back, 2 weeks later, same results. By this time, more than 30 days had past since I started experiencing symptoms. When I came back he told me that he still wasn't convinced, but he'll put me on the antibiotics for Lyme to see if its helps and then to follow-up. Well it didn't help, which i figured bc it had been over a month by then. I came back and he went back over my test and said my liver was elevated, so I needed to get an ultra-sound done. I went to a place he referred me to for the test, they didn't accept any insurance bc they were privately own so i had to pay $200.00 right there out of pocket for this test. I did it bc I wanted to get to the bottom of this. A week went by and I didn't hear anything back. I received a copy of my test that day, so I know it was ready. I decided to call them to make sure there wasn't any problems. I spoke with another staff member who went in my file and told me that they found a lesion on my liver and that the next step was to go back to the same place and get an MRI. I was pretty shocked when I found out there was a problem and that NOONE had called to let me know! When I went back for the MRI, I was expected to pay $820.00 out of pocket! I was in disbelief that any place would expect someone to have money like that laying around ready to spend on an MRI, hello that's why insurance exists! (oh yea you guys are good to take insurance). I am 22 years old, living on my own and just out of college, I don't have $800 to spend on an MRI. So I declined the MRI, walked out and decided I'm done with Dr. Aklilu and this place. I never went back to his office and never did I receive a call from his office after this to check-in. Show's how concerned he is with his patients. Here I am months later still having a bunch of symptoms and health issues at 22 years old, trying to find a doctor that will take the time to help me. I wasted so much time with this Dr. and money. I paid $50.00 every time I visited which was 4X= $200.00 plus the $125.00 lab test and $200.00 ultra-sound= a total of $525.00 for no answers and to see a doctor for about 5 minutes who wasn't invested in my case.

This doctor is incredible for me! I have been to three infectious disease doctors prior that were not helpful and dr aklilu really cared! He is the only one that actually wanted to follow up and see me! He has made me feel so great and is helping me with whatever is going on with me. Has great bedside manners and listens to you! I really recommend him 100 percent.

Dr. Aklilu save my life, he is he the most caring and kind doctor I have meet. His staff was very courteous His Diagnosis was accurate I will recommend him any time.
