Dr. Yong Shik Shin, MD

After several messages left on Dr. Shin's refill line & to talk to an actual person at the desk, my script was running out & I knew it was dangerous to just not take the meds suddenly. On my messages, I left urgent pleas to call me or my pharmacy to refill these scripts, to no avail. With not having any meds left, I suffered a head injury when I passed out at my kitchen sink, hitting my head on the granite countertop. Then I landed on the floor on my left side, bruising my face, arm & leg. I suffered a concussion & was taken to the ER, where I had to stay overnight.

I was seeing Dr. Shin for at least ten years. I always paid my portion of the bill at the time of service, was prompt for every appointment and a model client from all aspects. Over those ten years, I never received a complaint or request to change my approach as a client. A couple of years ago, we altered my appointments to be on an as needed basis, i.e. when my depression symptoms were getting worse and I wanted her professional recommendation. Last Monday, I noticed signs of increased depression so I called to schedule an appointment. Dr. Shin called me back directly at which time I explained why I thought an appointment with her was warranted. She requested that I immediately call the front office to schedule an appointment. I called the front office immediately afterwards and continued calling once or twice a day for 5 consecutive days, i.e. Monday - Friday, during office hours. Due to no one answering each call, I left a voicemail every time explaining that Dr. Shin… agreed to see me and asked that I schedule an appointment. Not only did no one ever call me back for 5 consecutive days, but when I entered the request via her website for an appointment, I received an email from the office manager that the office decided to no longer see me as a patient with no explanation provided. Regardless of my history of being a model client, the mere fact that the office never answered my calls or called me back for an entire week is very indicative of their lack of professionalism and trust. Dr. Shin verbally agreed to see me and, after a week's time, decided not to keep her commitment. I am extremely angry and surprised at the lack of professionalism received as a client and would not recommend Dr. Shin to anyone.

I was on time for my appointment. I waited 50 minutes and Dr Shin still did not arrive to her office There were two people before me as well. I left as I had to get back to work. I requested a call back from Dr Shin. She called me and wanted to charge me a prescription fee of $25( to call in my prescription) until I could see her next. She was booked out 9 weeks and my medication would have run out I explained to her she was an hour late and she said this is to be expected and would not even waive the prescription fee. She does not care about peoples mental health but just the dollar. This is the second time I have had an issue with her and it was surrounding these extra fee's which she tries to charge. Stay Awy

Dr Shin is a very busy doctor. The front desk girls do the best they can. Amanda is very helpful and very friendly. It is worth the wait to have great care.

This practice has little or no care for any of it's patience They lost lab results 4 times that resulted in visits to a Quest lab that medicare was not going to cover. Dr. Shin wrote 3 prescriptions they could not accept. I went to pick up one of the prescriptions she said she fixed and it took 3 visits to get it. Over all the staff is rude. No to mention if you doo have an appointment you wait an hour and I have counted at least d8 people ahead of me. If you truly need help your better off on your own if you choose this practice. I would rate this a 0 stars if I could. They should be out of practice.

Don’t come here unless you are able to put off any other plans you have for the rest of the day. You will be waiting AT LEAST an hour to be seen to have a five minute conversation. She gets unbelievably behind with patients and you really should just arrive an hour past scheduled appointment bc that is when you’ll be seen.

I was given notice at my regular appointment that the dr could no longer provide treatment for me. I have 30 days to find another provider, if anyone has ever tried to find a Psychatrist 30 days just doesn't seem like enough. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!

I have been visiting this office for over a year now on a regular basis. Dr. Shin herself is fantastic, which is why I have continued with the practice. However, the practice itself is beyond terrible. Most recently, I missed an appointment (I have a chronic medical condition as well, and between this and two sick children, I mixed up my dates). When I called and rescheduled I asked if one of my prescriptions that would run out before the next appointment could be filled until that appointment. After calling the office three times, and being told they would call back, which never happened, I was finally told that they would not fill my script without the Doctor seeing me first. While I understand this, I expressed concern as the medication could have serious withdraw effects when discontinued suddenly. I asked the staff member what I should do about these withdraw symptoms since I would not have a script and they did not have any appointments except during my work hours in the… meantime. I was told by the very inconsiderate office staff, Michelle, "Well, you better keep those appointments then!" in a condescending tone, and when prompted further "I guess you should just call your PCP and see if THEY are willing to prescribe it in the meantime". I ended up taking an appointment the next day, causing me to lose hours at work, which I can not afford. However, the alternative of withdraw seems worse, and requesting it from my PCP who has never seen me for this condition seems unethical. It is entirely unacceptable that a medical provider would allow a patient to suffer serious side effects. It is even more unacceptable that the office staff treated me with such disrespect, even as an established patient. This does not even begin to touch on other issues, such as waiting more than an hour past my appointment times, or being told by staff to "don't even bother showing up on time because she won't be ready to see you then". As a practice that deals with a very specialized type of medicine, this is unethical and unacceptable. After this visit, I will regrettably be seeking a new provider, not due to the doctor, but due to the staff's rude and unethical treatment.

Part of my pre bariatric surgery program. A complete joke! Waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for a 10 minute conversation then billed $300. Said they would call with a follow up 6 weeks later and still no call. I called again and said once again they would get back to me, 2 weeks later and still no call. My wife has had a similar horrible experience. Made an appointment at gateway. Run away...... FAST! I wish I could mark off 0 stars 'cause that's what this office is a big fat zero.

This doctor is extremely unethical, horrible, and does not seem to have any compassion or care for her patients. I admitted my boyfriend to the ER who was then sent to the pysch ward for 4 days. She was contacted by the hospital. Never did she check up on him, he actually missed his appointment he had scheduled with Dr. Shin (because he was in the pysch ward), and she sent him a bill for a no show. After he got out he called to immediately see her and he was told she would be available in a month and a half to see him. This office is absolutely the worse practice I have ever heard of ever. She should have never been able to practice and NO ONE should see this doctor unless they want basically want to pay for no treatment at all.
